Chapter 17 - The New ReignI walked to the center of the elevated dais where the microphone stood waiting. Margaret stepped aside, handing me a crystal flute filled with vintage champagne.

For a brief second, my mind flashed back to that exact night a year ago—the sound of my wedding ring hitting Grant’s glass, the sharp click of our marriage ending in front of everyone, the cold water swallowing me whole.
Now, the ring was gone, replaced by a diamond-encrusted family heirloom ring on my right hand that signified sovereignty, not submission.
“Good evening, everyone,” I began, my voice carrying effortlessly across the vast ballroom, amplified by the crystal acoustics of the hall.
The crowd leaned in, hanging on every syllable.
“A year ago, standing just outside on the grand terrace, I learned a very valuable lesson about legacy, betrayal, and the difference between those who build an empire and those who merely try to squat in its halls.”
A ripple of nervous, appreciative laughter moved through the front rows.
“Some believed that public humiliation was a weapon powerful enough to break a woman,” I continued, locking eyes with several prominent executives who quickly averted their gaze. “Some believed that ambition without integrity could outlast the foundational strength of family and truth. They were mistaken.”
I raised my crystal flute toward the grand french doors overlooking the starlit pool terrace.
“To those who thought they could write my story for me: thank you for the motivation. To those who stood by and watched: remember that power belongs to those who do not flinch when the water gets cold.”

I took a sip of the crisp, golden champagne, and the entire ballroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause.
The past was buried. The empire was secure. And the game had only just begun.
