Chapter 4 - The Legal Bloodbath

RUINED IN 60 SECONDS: The Boardroom Confrontation That Stripped Him of His Crown.Marcus Sterling leaned forward, his hands clasped on the table. He looked at Daniel not as a colleague, but as a liability that needed to be incinerated.
"Daniel, the seed money for this firm was a ten-million-dollar trust loan from the Vance family," Marcus said softly. "The contract states that if you are terminated for moral turpitude or corporate espionage, the Vance Trust has the right to recall that loan immediately, with interest."
"You can't terminate me!" Daniel yelled, his face turning a deep, angry purple. "I am a named partner! I built this place!"
"You were a partner," Marcus corrected him, sliding a termination agreement across the marble. "Until Maya uncovered that you have been routing client acquisition funds into an offshore account in the Cayman Islands. That is a federal crime, Daniel. We have already notified the SEC."
Daniel looked at the paper. His signature was required, but below it was a clause that made his stomach turn:
"If you sign this," Marcus said, "we will agree not to press criminal charges for the embezzlement, provided you repay the missing funds within thirty days. If you do not sign, the FBI will be waiting for you in the lobby."
Daniel’s hands shook so violently he could barely hold the pen. He looked at Maya, who watched him with absolute indifference. He looked at Arthur, who had a faint, victorious smile on his face.
"Where is Elena?" Daniel whispered, his voice cracking. "Let me talk to her. She wouldn't do this to me. We’ve been married for seven years!"
"Elena is currently finalizing the paperwork to dissolve your marriage under the state's 'Fault' clause," Arthur said. "Because we have ironclad proof of both your financial fraud and your physical infidelity, you will receive nothing. No alimony. No share of the house. No share of the business."
With no other choice, his chest collapsing under the weight of his own hubris, Daniel pressed the pen to the paper.

He signed away his career, his wealth, and his reputation in three jagged strokes of blue ink.
"Thank you, Daniel," Marcus said, taking the paper and standing up. "Your security clearance has been revoked. Security will escort you to the curb. You have five minutes to clear your desk. Actually, don't bother—we’ve already boxed up your things. They are waiting for you by the dumpster."
