Chapter 8 - THE TRAP CLOSESJulian Vance thought he had won. With Graeme out of the way, Julian assumed absolute control of the company, ready to liquidate its assets and cash out his shares.

To secure his position, he needed to silence the only two people standing in his way: Sarah Collins, who held the original physical records, and Graeme Hayes, who might cooperate with federal investigators to salvage his soul.

On a foggy Tuesday evening, as Sarah walked home from the grocery store with Mia, a black van pulled up beside them. Two men in dark suits stepped out, grabbing Sarah by the arms.

"Mommy!" Mia screamed, dropping her bag of oranges as they rolled across the pavement.

"Let me go!" Sarah fought fiercely, kicking and screaming, but she was overpowered. They shoved her into the back of the van, slamming the doors shut just as a lone figure rushed out from the diner across the street.

It was Graeme.

Without a second thought, Graeme sprinted into the street, flagging down a passing taxi. "Follow that van!" he ordered, throwing a hundred-dollar bill through the partition.

The chase tore through the slick Chicago streets, weaving through traffic until the van pulled into an abandoned shipping warehouse by the freezing lakefront.
