Chapter 9 - The Final Reckoning"What... what is this?" Marcus stammered, his face draining of all color as he realized his trap had just been completely inverted.

"You didn't really think a single mother working six months in my house was just a random hire, did you, Marcus?" Adrian said, his voice returning to its terrifying, icy calm as he took three slow steps forward.

Rachel Carter—former undercover federal financial crimes investigator, assigned to infiltrate the Vale organization three years ago—leaned over the balcony rail, her face hard as stone.

"We tracked the offshore accounts six months ago, Marcus," Rachel called down, her voice clear and authoritative in the cavernous church. "We knew Vanessa was leaking intel. We knew the bear had a recorder. We were just waiting for you to step out of the shadows and claim the throne."

Marcus frantically reached inside his jacket for his firearm, but before his fingers could even graze the grip, a deafening crack split the air.

BANG.

A 9mm round tore through the marble floor an inch from Marcus’s left boot, sending chips of stone flying into his shins.

"Don't even think about it," Adrian said, drawing his Glock and leveling it squarely at Marcus’s chest.

Marcus froze, his hands slowly rising into the air, the smile completely erased from his face, replaced by the desperate, sweating panic of a cornered rat.

"Adrian... wait," Marcus pleaded, his voice cracking. "We're brothers. We built this together. You can't just throw thirty years away over a dead woman—"

"She wasn't just a woman," Adrian interrupted, his voice dropping into a lethal whisper as he closed the distance between them. "She was my wife. And you touched my daughter."

Before Marcus could speak another word, Adrian holstered his gun, lunged forward with blinding speed, and drove his fist straight into Marcus’s jaw with the force of a wrecking ball.

Marcus let out a choked gasp, his legs buckling beneath him as he crashed hard onto the cold marble floor, unconscious before he even hit the ground.

Adrian didn't look back at him. He sprinted straight past the altar, dropped to his knees beside Lily, and frantically ripped the zip-ties from her wrists and the duct tape from her mouth.

"Daddy!" Lily sobbed, throwing her arms around his neck, burying her face into his shoulder. "I knew you'd come! I knew it!"

Adrian held his daughter tightly, burying his face in her hair as a single tear—the first he had shed in eleven years—finally slipped down his cheek.

"I've got you, sweetheart," Adrian whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I've got you. We're going home."
