Chapter 7 - The Final VerdictJudge Eleanor Vance adjusted her glasses, looking down at the thick stack of documents and transcripts resting on her podium. The silence in Courtroom 402 was so profound that the hum of the overhead ventilation system sounded like a jet engine.

"Julian Sterling," the judge began, her voice echoing with judicial gravity. "In my thirty years on the bench, I have rarely encountered a case of such calculated greed, moral bankruptcy, and depraved indifference to human life. You manipulated the legal, financial, and marital systems to isolate, exploit, and ultimately attempt to assassinate your wife for financial gain."

Julian slumped forward in his chair, his head bowed, the last remnants of his bravado utterly shattered.

"On the charges of wire fraud, identity theft, interstate conspiracy, and attempted premeditated murder in the second degree, this court sentences you to thirty-two years in federal prison without the possibility of parole," Judge Vance declared, bringing her gavel down with a sharp, echoing crack. "Furthermore, all corporate assets, personal accounts, real estate holdings, and subsidiary shares are hereby forfeited and awarded in full to the plaintiff, Audrey Sterling, as restitution for damages."

The gavel strike signaled the end of an era.

Bailiffs stepped up behind Julian, clicking handcuffs onto his wrists once more—this time for good. As they hoisted him to his feet, he looked back at me one last time. His eyes weren't filled with anger anymore; they were empty, hollow, and utterly defeated.

He was escorted out through the side door, disappearing into the subterranean holding cells that led directly to maximum security.

I let out a long, slow breath—a breath I felt like I had been holding for eleven years.

My father placed a warm, heavy hand on my shoulder. Vicky smiled, sliding a final set of papers across the table for me to sign.

"It’s over, Audrey," my father whispered softly. "You’re free."
