Chapter 9 - SHADOWS IN THE CAPITALThree weeks later, in a secure, nondescript briefing room deep beneath the streets of Washington, D.C., a senior CIA director stood before a large digital whiteboard displaying satellite imagery of the dismantled Iron Compass syndicate.

The door opened softly, and a woman walked in wearing a tailored charcoal business suit, her brown hair falling in loose waves over her shoulders. Her left arm moved with effortless grace, completely healed from the knife wound in New Jersey.

"Debrief complete, Agent Doyle?" the director asked, not looking up from his files.

Maggie Doyle tossed a secure flash drive onto the steel desk. It contained the complete financial records, asset locations, and encrypted communication codes of what remained of global syndicate cells across Europe and Asia.

"The New Jersey operation is closed, Director," Maggie reported crisply, her posture radiating absolute authority. "The Caldwell syndicate has been neutralized as a criminal enterprise and transitioned into a legitimate shipping conglomerate under federal supervision."

The director looked up, a rare hint of approval in his eyes. "And Ethan Caldwell?"

Maggie walked over to the secure glass window, looking out over the illuminated skyline of the capital city. A faint, knowing smile played across her lips as she remembered the billionaire standing on his front porch with a cast-iron skillet in his hand.

"He's learning how to run a clean business," Maggie said softly. "And honestly? He makes a surprisingly good cup of coffee."
