Chapter 1 - THE VOICE FROM THE BACKThe voice belonged to a man I had never seen before. He was tall, dressed in a sharp, charcoal-grey suit, and stood near the rear exit. As the room erupted into chaos, he walked forward with the cold, measured pace of a predator.

"Victoria didn't act alone," the stranger declared, his voice cutting through the funeral home's frantic whispering like a blade. "Trevor, ask her about the trust fund payout she promised you if the children were 'out of the way' before the quarterly board meeting."
Trevor turned to look at his mother, his face ghostly. "Mom? Tell me he’s lying."
Victoria, who had been ranting about ruining lives, suddenly went deathly silent. Her eyes shifted from the stranger to her son, and for the first time, she looked vulnerable.
