Chapter 10 - THE UNEXPECTED LEGACYONE YEAR LATER

The winter snow had returned to the Pacific Northwest, but this time, the Cole Estate was filled with warmth, firelight, and gentle lullabies.
Inside the master nursery, decorated in warm gold and cream tones, Ethan stood beside a hand-carved mahogany crib. In his arms, he held a tiny, dark-haired baby girl wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket. Her dark eyes were bright and curious, mirroring her mother's.
Claire walked into the nursery, leaning against Ethan's arm, looking down at their newborn daughter.
"She has your quiet gaze, Ethan," Claire smiled softly, gently brushing the baby's cheek.
"And she has her mother's unbreakable spirit," Ethan murmured back, his heart swelling with a warmth he had never known in all his years as the Ghost King.
Suddenly, Viktor tapped quietly on the nursery door frame. He looked composed, but his expression carried a subtle weight. "Boss, Mrs. Cole. A package just arrived at the front gate. It was delivered directly from the federal prison authority."
Ethan frowned slightly, handing the baby gently to Claire before stepping into the hallway. "What is it?"
Viktor handed him a small, sealed wooden box. "It belonged to your mother, Evelyn. She passed away in her cell early this morning from heart failure. The warden sent her remaining personal effects."
Ethan opened the box. Inside was no gold, no jewelry, and no legal papers. There was only a single, faded photograph of Ethan as a young boy, holding his father's hand in the mansion's garden, and a small handwritten note written in Evelyn's frail handwriting shortly before her death:
"Ethan... I thought I was building an empire for blood, but I only built my own prison. Forgive me. Protect your daughter from the darkness I embraced."
Ethan looked at the note for a long moment. He didn't feel anger, nor regret. He closed the box and handed it back to Viktor.
"Burn it, Viktor," Ethan said calmly. "The past stays in the ashes."
Ethan turned and walked back into the bright, warm nursery. He wrapped his arms around Claire and their daughter, looking out the frost-kissed window toward the iron gates.

The storm outside raged on, but inside the fortress of the Ghost King and his Queen, there was only eternal warmth, love, and an unbroken legacy that would last for generations.
