Chapter 4 - The Poisoned HeirloomThe living room was silent as Maya Vance sat on the edge of the sofa, clutching a mug of warm tea with both hands. Clara sat beside her, gently comforting the distraught woman, while Owen paced the rug, trying to process the magnitude of the betrayal.

"Julian never told us," Owen breathed out, staring at the ceiling. "My brother never said a word about a girl named Julianna."
"They were hiding," Maya explained, her voice thick with emotion. "Julianna was twenty-one. She worked as an intern at your family’s real estate company. When she got pregnant, Julian was terrified of your parents. He knew his mother would destroy her reputation and his career if she found out he was having a child with an unpaid intern from a low-income background. They planned to leave Tennessee together. But then... Julian had his car accident."
Owen remembered that horrific night six years ago. Julian’s sports car had gone off a mountain road in rainstorms. The loss had broken what little warmth was left in the Whitlock family.
"After Julian died," Maya continued, her eyes flashing with anger, "Julianna went to your mother. She was grieving, alone, and seven months pregnant. She begged Eleanor for help. Eleanor put her up in the St. Jude Private Clinic, promising to take care of everything. But my sister didn't survive the delivery. She suffered a massive hemorrhage. And as soon as she was gone, Eleanor erased the baby’s existence."
"Why?" Clara asked, her eyes wide with horror. "Why would Eleanor hide her own son's child? Her own grandchild?"
"Because of Julian’s trust fund," Owen said suddenly, the missing puzzle piece slamming into place with terrifying clarity.
Clara looked at him, confused. "What trust fund?"
"Grandfather Arthur’s will," Owen said, his hands shaking as he remembered the terms. "Grandfather left forty percent of the entire estate—over fifty million dollars—specifically designated for Julian’s firstborn child. If Julian died without biological heirs, that forty percent was set to be split between Lauren’s children... Madison and Harper."
Maya nodded slowly. "If Lily was recognized as Julian’s daughter, she inherited tens of millions of dollars the moment she turned eighteen. But if she was 'dead,' all that money went straight to Lauren and your mother’s total control."
"Eleanor couldn't bring herself to kill a newborn child," Clara said, tears of disgust welling in her eyes. "So she staged a fake adoption through her private agency. She gave the baby to us because we were desperate for a child, knowing we would love her, raise her, and never ask questions about her origin! She hid the legal heir right in front of us!"
"And now," Owen said, his rage rising to an absolute boiling point, "the clinic nurse is blowing the whistle. That's why Dad called me last night. That's why he was asking about Lily's legal papers! They know the truth is coming out, and they’re trying to cover their tracks before New Year's Eve!"
Suddenly, a loud screech of tires echoed from the street outside.
Owen ran to the front window and pulled back the curtains. A black SUV with tinted windows had pulled up directly behind his car. Two men in sharp dark suits stepped out, walking deliberately up his front walkway.

Before Owen could react, his phone chimed on the coffee table. It was a text message from a locked, encrypted number.
