Chapter 5 - Blood on the DocksThe salty wind whipped off the East River, carrying the scent of diesel, rotting seaweed, and impending violence.

Pier 42 was a sprawling, rusted skeletal structure of corrugated tin and shadows. Underneath the flickering sodium lights, a dozen black-clad enforcers belonging to Dante Moretti crept toward the stacked shipping containers, submachine guns raised, waiting for Viktor Rostov’s convoy to roll through the main gate.
Dante Moretti, a slick-haired viper in an expensive leather jacket, checked his gold Rolex. "Ten seconds, boys. When Rostov’s cars pull through that gate, turn the containers into Swiss cheese. I want his head on a spike."
What Dante didn't know—what his encrypted radio frequency couldn't warn him about—was that the floor beneath his boots was about to open up.
KABOOM.
A heavy steel maintenance hatch behind the shipping containers blew outward with a deafening roar. Before Moretti’s men could spin around, a heavily armed strike team of Viktor’s elite guards poured out of the subterranean darkness, descending upon them like avenging angels.
"What the hell?! Where did they come from?!" one of Moretti’s lieutenants shrieked, firing wildly into the night.
"Keep shooting! Flank them!" Moretti roared, drawing a customized Glock.
But it was a slaughter. Guided by the precise tactical coordinates Zora had mapped out from her desk twenty miles away, Viktor’s men controlled every choke point, every shadow, and every escape route.
And right in the center of the chaos stood Viktor Rostov.
He didn't flinch as bullets ricocheted off the steel container inches from his head. Moving with terrifying, fluid grace, Viktor closed the distance between himself and Moretti’s remaining guards, his fists striking with bone-crushing efficiency.
Within four minutes, the shooting stopped.
Silence descended over Pier 42, broken only by the lapping of the river water against the wooden pilings and the groans of Moretti’s defeated men sprawled across the asphalt.
Dante Moretti was on his knees, his nose bleeding profusely, a heavy boot planted firmly in the center of his chest.
Viktor stood over him, his silver-streaked hair ruffled by the river wind, his suit immaculate save for a single speck of dust. He looked down at his rival with cold, dead eyes.
"You're slipping, Dante," Viktor said softly, his voice carrying an icy menace that made Moretti shiver. "Sending low-level thugs to handle a Rostov operation? I expected better from the king of Little Italy."
"You... you bastard," Moretti spat blood onto Viktor’s polished shoe. "You shouldn't have known about the route. Nobody knew except my inner circle. You had inside information!"
Viktor crouched down, grabbing Moretti by his silk collar and pulling his face close.
"I have something better than inside information, Dante," Viktor whispered, a dark, dangerous smile touching his lips. "I have a genius."
Viktor stood up, turning his back on the whimpering rival boss. He pulled out his secure phone and dialed a direct extension.
The line connected on the first ring.
"It's done," Viktor said into the receiver. "Moretti’s strike team is neutralized. The shipment is secure."
Through the speaker, over the sound of clicking keys, Zora Reid’s calm, melodic voice came through.
"Good. Because while you were out playing action hero, I found a digital paper trail linking Moretti’s offshore accounts directly to three federal judges in Manhattan. Shall I wipe their bank accounts or just leak the files to the press?"
May you like
Viktor let out a low, booming laugh that echoed across the dark docks.
"Wipe them clean, Zora. Let's see how they survive without their money."
