Chapter 10 - The New DawnSix months later.

The front-page headlines of every major financial and metropolitan newspaper carried a seismic shockwave:

HAIL GLOBAL LIQUIDATES ASSETS TO FOUND 'ELIZA & OLIVIA FOUNDATION': BILLIONAIRE VICTOR HAI STEPS DOWN AS CEO TO LEAD NATIONWIDE CHILD REHABILITATION INITIATIVE.

Corrupt politicians indicted; millions recovered and returned to urban public housing trusts.

Inside the newly renovated community center on 9th Street—now a state-of-the-art facility providing shelter, education, and hot meals for hundreds of homeless children—sunlight poured through large, welcoming glass windows.

At the center of the dining hall, children laughed and played around long wooden tables laden with food. There were no white linens here. No crystal glasses catching candlelight. Just warmth, noise, and life.

At a corner table sat Elena Vance, smiling as she watched Leo devour his third plate of pancakes.

And near the door, wearing a simple gray sweatshirt and a pair of clean sneakers, stood Maya. She was holding a tray of pastries, handing them out to a group of newly arrived kids who looked just as terrified and hungry as she and her brother had been six months ago.

She stopped in front of a little boy who was hiding behind his older sister, clutching his torn coat.

Maya knelt down, just like a certain billionaire had knelt down on a Persian rug in Lumiere. She smiled warmly, her eyes bright and fearless.

"Hey," Maya said softly, holding out a plate of warm food. "You're safe here. Nobody is going to turn you away."

Across the room, standing by the doorway with his hands in his pockets, Victor Hail watched her.

He felt the small gray pebble in his pocket, rubbing its smooth surface between his thumb and index finger.

The rain outside was falling softly, but for the first time in his life, the storm didn't feel cold anymore. It just felt like the beginning of spring.
