Chapter 7 - THE SUNRISE OVER MISSION BAYThree days later, the sun rose over San Francisco, painting the waters of Mission Bay in brilliant shades of gold and amber.

I stood on the private balcony of my two-bedroom condominium, a mug of fresh coffee in hand, watching the ferries glide across the glassy bay. The morning breeze caught my hair, brushing gently against the small, healing scar on my left temple where Adrian’s plate had struck me.
Every time I touched it, I didn't feel pain or humiliation anymore. I felt power.
Down below on the street, moving trucks were parked outside a neighboring building, but my mind was entirely at peace.
My phone buzzed on the glass table beside me.
It was a text from Maya: The first support group meeting for the former Caldwell spouses is scheduled for Saturday. Three more women came forward yesterday with documentation. We’re taking our lives back, Claire.
I smiled, typing a quick reply: Count me in. We’re just getting started.
I locked my screen and looked out over the sparkling water.
They had invited twenty witnesses to my humiliation, expecting me to break under pressure, surrender my home, and disappear into their shadow. They thought silence was the safest currency a woman could own.
