CHAPTER 5: Sarah Was Alive... But Her First Words Broke Jack's Heart

Jack couldn't breathe.

The woman standing in front of him looked older.

There were silver strands in her hair.

A scar crossed her left cheek.

But those blue eyes...

He would have recognized them anywhere.

"Sarah..."

His voice cracked.

For twenty years, he had dreamed of this moment.

He imagined running to her.

Holding her.

Never letting go again.

Instead...

She raised one trembling hand.

"Don't come any closer."

The words hit him harder than any bullet.

Emma stared at the woman.

Her tiny voice shook.

"Mommy?"

Sarah dropped to her knees and hugged her daughter so tightly that neither of them could stop crying.

The thousands of bikers surrounding the mountain fell silent.

Even Colonel Miller watched without saying a word.

Jack took another step forward.

"Why?"

"Why did you disappear?"

Sarah slowly stood, tears streaming down her face.

"Because they gave me a choice."

She turned toward Miller.

"They said if I stayed with you..."

"...both of you would die."

Jack clenched his fists.

"So you believed him?"

Sarah looked at him with broken eyes.

"No."

"I knew he wasn't lying."

Miller laughed softly.

"Finally..."

"Someone tells the truth."

Jack charged toward him.

Before he could reach him, Sarah screamed.

"STOP!"

Jack froze.

Sarah reached inside her leather jacket and pulled out a small silver flash drive hanging from a chain around her neck.

"I spent twenty years collecting evidence."

"Every payment."

"Every secret mission."

"Every murder."

"Everything Miller ever buried."

She held it high.

"This contains the names of every politician..."

"Every general..."

"Every businessman..."

"...who built their fortunes on the deaths of innocent soldiers."

The reporters gasped.

Millions of people watching the live broadcast realized this wasn't just one man's betrayal.

It was an entire network.

Miller's smile vanished.

"Kill them."

The command echoed across the mountain.

Gunfire exploded.

Bikers threw themselves in front of Emma.

Smoke filled the air.

Motorcycles crashed into armored vehicles.

The peaceful memorial had become a battlefield.

Jack tackled Sarah behind a boulder.

"Give me the drive!"

She shook her head.

"No."

"If they catch you..."

"They'll torture you."

Jack looked into her eyes.

"Then we'll run together."

Sarah smiled sadly.

"We've already spent twenty years running."

"It's time someone else ran."

Before Jack understood what she meant...

Sarah slipped the flash drive into Emma's backpack.

She whispered into her daughter's ear.

"Whatever happens..."

"Never let anyone take this."

Emma nodded through tears.

Then...

A deafening explosion ripped across the mountain.

The bridge leading out of the valley collapsed into the river below.

Everyone turned.

Dozens of black helicopters appeared over the ridge.

Not military.

Unmarked.

No flags.

No identification.

Miller looked up...

And for the first time all day...

He looked terrified.

One of his own officers shouted,

"Sir... those aren't ours!"

Another helicopter landed in the middle of the battlefield.

Its door slowly opened.

A tall man wearing a dark overcoat stepped onto the ground.

Every armed soldier lowered their weapons immediately.

Even Colonel Miller stood at attention.

The stranger removed his black gloves.

Then calmly spoke.

"You've all made a terrible mess."

Jack frowned.

"Who are you?"

The man smiled.

"You spent twenty years hiding from Colonel Miller..."

He paused.

"...without realizing Miller was never the one giving the orders."

The mountain fell silent.

The stranger looked directly at Emma.

Then at the backpack containing the flash drive.

Finally, he said the words that made everyone's blood run cold.

"Bring me my granddaughter."

Emma's face turned white.

Sarah gasped.

Jack stepped in front of them.

"What did you just say?"

The stranger smiled again.

"I said..."

"Emma belongs to my family."

A stunned silence swept across the mountain.

Sarah whispered the truth she had hidden for twenty years.

"Jack..."

"...he's your father."

The world seemed to stop.

Jack slowly looked back at the stranger.

The man he had hated all his life.

The man he believed had died before he was born.

The man secretly controlling everything from the shadows.

May you like

His own father.
