Chapter 1 - THE RESCUE AND THE ACCUSATION

The marble chapel erupted into absolute chaos.
A pale, bruised hand reached out from the fractured white coffin, fingers trembling as they clawed at the air. The man in the black suit—Julian Vance, the powerful, wealthy husband of the supposedly deceased Emily Vance—stood paralyzed. The terror on his face wasn’t just shock; it was the sheer horror of a man watching his dark secrets disintegrate in real-time.
"Get her out! Help me!" shouted Mia, the young maid in the bright orange uniform.
Ignoring the whispers and gasps of the elite mourners, Mia jammed her metal pry bar deeper into the crack. With a sickening splintering sound, she leveraged the lid upward. Julian finally snapped out of his stupor, though his eyes darted frantically toward the chapel doors before he reluctantly stepped forward to help lift the heavy mahogany slab.
As the lid gave way, Emily collapsed outward onto the cold chapel floor, gasping for air like a drowning swimmer. Her skin was ghastly pale, her lips purple, but her chest rose and fell in ragged, frantic hitches.
"She’s... she’s alive!" screamed a woman in the front row.
Mia dropped to her knees, immediately rolling Emily onto her side to clear her airway. Emily’s eyes fluttered open—bloodshot, terrified, and unfocused. She clutched Mia’s orange sleeve with a desperate, iron grip, her lips moving without sound.
Julian dropped to his knees next to them, his hands shaking as he reached for his wife. "Emily! My god, Emily! It's a miracle!" he cried out, his voice loud enough for the entire crowd to hear. But as his face drew close to hers, Mia caught something horrific: Julian’s eyes weren't filled with relief—they were filled with absolute fury.
"Call an ambulance!" Mia yelled, looking around at the frozen crowd.
"No!" Julian snapped instantly. The harshness in his voice made the chapel go dead silent. Realizing his mistake, he quickly softened his tone. "I mean... my private medical team is already parked outside in the VIP courtyard. They are much better equipped for... private emergencies. I’ll carry her."
"Mr. Vance, she needs emergency paramedics right now," Mia protested, standing her ground.
Julian leaned in close to Mia, his grip tightening around Emily’s waist as he prepared to lift her. "Listen to me very carefully, little girl," he hissed under his breath, his voice laced with poison. "You just ruined a multi-million-dollar arrangement. Keep your mouth shut, or you'll end up in a box next."
Before Mia could process the threat, Julian scooped his revived wife into his arms and barked orders at his personal security guards, who immediately moved in to block the chapel doors, pushing photographers and guests back.
Mia stood stunned in the center of the chaotic room, her hands covered in wood dust and dirt. She looked down at her palm. When Emily had grabbed her sleeve, she had slipped a small, crumpled piece of paper into Mia's hand.

Unfolding it in secret, Mia read the frantic, jaggedly scrawled words written on a napkin:
“Julian poisoned me. Don’t let him take me home.”
