Chapter 6 - The Fallout in the SpotlightThe silence in the marquee tent was absolute. The only sound was the rustle of the morning wind catching the edges of the white canvas overhead.

Every head turned away from the stage and locked onto the center aisle.
Mara walked with her chin held high, her dark sunglasses sliding down the bridge of her nose just enough to reveal her sharp, unblinking gaze. Nathan walked half a step behind her, hands tucked casually into his jacket pockets, acting as an immovable wall of protection.
On stage, Grant Halloway looked like a ghost. His mouth opened, but no words came out. His manicured hands gripped the edge of the podium so hard his knuckles turned white.
"Stop her!" Arthur Sterling bellowed into the microphone, his voice cracking with sudden, uncontained fury. "Security! Remove these trespassers immediately!"
Two burly private security guards in dark suits rushed down the aisle, stepping directly into Mara’s path.
They didn't get within six feet of her.
Nathan stepped forward with frightening speed, his arm shooting out to block the lead guard's chest with the unyielding force of a hydraulic press.
"I wouldn't touch her if I were you," Nathan said, his voice cold, flat, and carrying a quiet menace that made the guard involuntarily step back. "Unless you want the SEC investigators currently waiting in the back parking lot to add felony obstruction to your employer's charge sheet."
"Who the hell are you?" Sterling shouted, abandoning the podium and storming down the stage steps, his face dark with rage.
Mara stopped five feet from the base of the stage. She looked up at the man who had tried to erase her existence, her voice ringing clear and steady through the still-open microphone feed.
"Hello, Grant," she said, her tone dripping with icy calm. "Did you really think you could bury the past under concrete and stolen money?"
Grant finally found his voice, stepping forward, his eyes wild with panic beneath a veneer of false bravado. "Mara—what is the meaning of this? You’re confused. You’re unstable—"
"I was unstable," Mara interrupted, her voice cutting through his lies like a razor. "For two years, I believed your lies. I thought I was the failure. I thought I was the one who broke our family. But sitting at that restaurant last week, listening to how many lives you’ve destroyed just to climb into bed with the Sterling family... I realized something important."
She reached down, gently patting the side of the stroller where Josie stirred sleepily, rubbing her eyes against the sudden noise.
"I realized you're not a mastermind, Grant," Mara continued, taking a step closer. "You're just a coward hiding behind forged documents and stolen names. And your little house of cards just collapsed."
Arthur Sterling spun around to face Grant, his eyes bulging. "What is she talking about? Who is this woman?"
"She's nobody, Arthur—she's just a bitter ex-partner running a smear campaign!" Grant stammered, sweat beading along his hairline.
"Is that right?"
A sharp, authoritative voice echoed from the rear of the tent.
Three men in dark suits and trench coats pushed through the folding chairs, flashing federal badges under the morning light.

"Grant Halloway, also known as G. H. Vance," the lead federal agent announced, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "You’re under arrest for interstate wire fraud, corporate identity theft, and money laundering."
The flashbulbs from the press corps erupted in a blinding wall of white light.
