Chapter 8 - A NEW DYNASTY

"RUN!" Alessandro screamed, grabbing Emma in one arm and pulling me with the other.
We sprinted toward the far treeline just as the timer hit zero.
BOOM!
The ground shook violent as a subterranean shockwave tore through the earth. The rear wing of Villa Moretti collapsed in a colossal column of fire, stone, and sparks, raining debris down across the estate. The force of the explosion threw us all forward onto the soft grass of the estate gardens.
I tumbled, coughing, dust covering my clothes. I immediately scrambled up on my knees. "Emma! Emma!"
"I'm here, Mommy," Emma’s voice whimpered. She was safe, nestled securely under Alessandro’s heavy torso. He had used his own body to shield her from the flying shrapnel.
Alessandro rolled off her, lying on his back, gasping for air, his face covered in soot and blood, but he was breathing.
Valeria walked up, her weapon lowered, her face lit by the orange glow of the burning mansion. She looked at her brother, then down at us.
"The fire will bring every authority in Northern Italy within ten minutes," Valeria said calmly. "The twelve families are decimated. Mateo Romano is dead, Ricci is dead, Vance is dead. The Vipera faction is finished."
Alessandro slowly sat up, resting his elbows on his knees. He looked at me, then down at Emma, who was still holding the torn, dirty blue wool rabbit.
"It’s over, Clara," Alessandro said softly. "You don't have to clean houses anymore. You don't have to hide."
Two weeks later...
The news of the "Villa Moretti Tragedy" dominated global headlines. The official report stated that a gas leak had destroyed the historic estate, claiming the lives of several high-profile Italian business figures. The underworld knew the truth, but no one dared speak it.
In a quiet, private villa overlooking Lake Como—far away from the blood-stained streets of Milan—I stood on a marble balcony. I wore an elegant cream silk dress, no longer a maid’s apron.
The heavy glass door slid open. Alessandro stepped out, dressed in a sharp black suit. His wounds were healing, though a thin scar now ran along his jawline.
"The bank transfers have cleared," Alessandro said, standing beside me and looking over the sparkling water. "Davide’s four billion dollars has been secured in an irrevocable trust for Emma. When she turns twenty-one, she will own the largest financial network in Europe."
"I don't care about the money, Alessandro," I said quietly, turning to face him. "I just wanted peace. For her. For me."
Alessandro looked down at me, his cold gray eyes showing a rare, genuine warmth. "You gave this family its future, Clara. You saved my life. You proved you have more courage than any boss who sat at my table."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out the blue rabbit. It had been meticulously repaired, the torn wool stitched together with fine gold thread, the traitorous black mark completely removed and replaced with a tiny golden crown.
"I had Marco restore it," Alessandro said, handing it to me. "A reminder that she is a Moretti. And so are you... if you'll stay."
I took the rabbit, feeling the soft wool against my fingers. "Are you asking me to be your housekeeper again, Mr. Moretti?"
A subtle, dangerous smile played on Alessandro’s lips. "I'm asking you to rule Milan at my side."

Behind us, Emma ran out onto the balcony, giggling as she chased a butterfly, completely oblivious to the empire that rested on her tiny shoulders.
