Chapter 14 - The Hound’s VengeanceRex launched himself forward with the speed of a striking viper.

Helena shrieked, dropping the satellite phone as she scrambled backward, tripping over a ceramic planter and crashing hard into a display of hanging orchids.

Before she could pull a concealed weapon from her belt, Rex’s massive jaws clamped firmly around the sleeve of her emerald coat, pinning her arm securely against the damp flagstones. He didn't bite down to kill—he held her with absolute, suffocating control, applying just enough pressure to make movement impossible.

"Call them off!" Helena screamed, her sophisticated composure completely shattering into raw terror as she stared into the glowing, intelligent eyes of the beast. "The safehouse... they'll execute the order!"

Julian walked over slowly, picked up the dropped satellite phone from the muddy floor, and glanced at the screen. The two armed operatives were still standing outside the Nashville door, looking at their communicators, waiting for Helena’s green light.

Julian didn't hesitate. He tapped the video call icon, switching the camera to front-facing view, and brought the screen down inches from Helena’s panicked face.

"Tell them to stand down, Helena," Julian said softly, his voice calm, steady, and utterly terrifying. "Right now. Or I let the dog finish the job, and then I send Camille to Hamburg to introduce your father to my personal brand of hospitality."

Helena gasped for air, her chest heaving under the weight of the massive dog pressing into her ribs. She looked at Julian's eyes and realized, with absolute horror, that he wasn't bluffing. He would burn her entire family dynasty to ash without blinking an eye.

"Do it!" Helena shrieked into the phone's microphone. "Stand down! Fall back immediately! That's an order!"

On the small screen, the two operatives hesitated, exchanged confused glances, and slowly lowered their rifles before turning around and marching away into the darkness of the Nashville alleyway.

Julian ended the call with a single tap, tossing the phone aside into a puddle of muddy water.

He crouched down beside Helena, his face inches from hers.

"You thought you could leverage my house, my people, and my peace," Julian whispered. "You should have checked my background, Helena. I didn't survive twenty years in the Atlantic underworld by being merciful to amateurs."

Helena trembled, unable to speak, tears of rage and fear mixing with the dirt on her cheeks.

Julian stood up, brushing off his knees, and looked at Camille. "Contact Salvatore. Tell him Heinrich Voss's shipping routes in the North Sea are officially open for hostile takeover. I want every single vessel impounded by sunrise."
