Chapter 20 - The Horizon


Ten years later, the farmhouse stood as a sturdy, welcoming beacon of light and warmth against the backdrop of the rolling green hills.
The orchard had grown tall and thick, casting long, peaceful shadows across the wide lawn where twelve-year-old Leo was currently teaching his younger sister—born safely and quietly in the county hospital six years prior—how to throw a baseball.
Emma and I stood on the porch, leaning side-by-side against the wooden railing, holding cups of coffee while the morning sun painted the sky in brilliant shades of gold and amber.
There were no locks of fear on our doors, no guards at our gates, and no shadows lurking in the corners of our home. We had built our sanctuary from the ground up, brick by honest brick, secured not by iron gates or legal threats, but by mutual respect, unwavering truth, and a love that had survived the darkest winter to find its eternal spring.
