Chapter 2: “DON'T LET HIM SEE US...” — The Billionaire Everyone Worshipped Smiled at the Neighbors... While the Terrified Mother Begged the Bikers to Leave

Emily's hands shook so violently that the bottle of water slipped from her fingers.

It rolled across the grass.

She didn't even notice.

Her eyes never left the black SUV.

"No..." she whispered again.

"Please... not today."

Little Mira instantly wrapped both arms around her mother.

"It's okay, Mommy."

But Emily wasn't listening.

She looked like someone who had just seen a ghost.

Ryder followed her terrified gaze.

The man stepping from the luxury SUV looked nothing like a monster.

He was handsome.

Expensive tailored suit.

Perfect silver watch.

Confident smile.

The kind of smile that appeared on charity billboards and magazine covers.

He greeted every neighbor by name.

Children waved at him.

A golden retriever ran toward him, tail wagging.

The man bent down and petted the dog while laughing warmly.

To everyone watching...

He looked like the nicest man in town.

To Emily...

He looked like death.

Ryder quietly stood between the SUV and the frightened mother.

His instincts screamed.

Twenty years riding with men who survived violence had taught him one simple lesson.

Real predators rarely looked dangerous.

They looked respectable.

The man crossed the street slowly.

"Emily."

His voice was calm.

Almost friendly.

"I've been looking everywhere for you."

Emily pulled Mira behind her.

"We're leaving."

"You don't have to run."

"I said we're leaving."

She struggled to stand.

Her knees buckled again.

Before she fell, Ryder caught her shoulder.

The stranger finally looked at Ryder.

His smile faded slightly.

"And you are?"

"Just someone helping."

The man extended his hand.

"Richard Whitmore."

Ryder didn't shake it.

Richard slowly lowered his hand, still smiling.

"I appreciate good people helping strangers."

His eyes drifted toward Mira.

"And you must be little Mira."

The child immediately hid behind Ryder's leather vest.

Richard's smile froze for half a second.

Then returned.

"You don't remember me?"

Mira buried her face deeper.

Emily suddenly shouted louder than anyone expected.

"Don't talk to my daughter!"

The entire street fell silent.

Neighbors stepped onto their porches.

Several phones quietly appeared.

Richard sighed dramatically.

"You see?"

He looked toward the watching families.

"This is exactly what I've been dealing with."

He rubbed his forehead as if carrying an impossible burden.

"My late brother married Emily six years ago."

The neighbors began whispering.

Ryder remained silent.

He wanted Richard to keep talking.

People who lied often volunteered too much information.

"My brother passed away last year."

Richard continued sadly.

"Since then, Emily has struggled with depression."

Several women watching from nearby houses nodded sympathetically.

Richard lowered his voice.

"I've offered her housing."

"I've offered therapy."

"I've offered financial support."

"But she refuses every time."

Emily stared at him in disbelief.

"You liar..."

Richard ignored her.

"I even tried helping with Mira."

"You stay away from my daughter!"

The little girl clung tighter to Ryder.

Richard smiled gently toward the child.

"Mira."

"Come here."

"No!"

Emily's scream echoed through the neighborhood.

Mira started crying.

Tank stepped beside Ryder.

Then Mason.

Then Viper.

Without discussing it...

The four bikers naturally formed a wall between Richard and the little girl.

The neighbors noticed.

To them...

It looked like four dangerous bikers were intimidating one respectable businessman.

Exactly the picture Richard wanted.

He sighed dramatically.

"I understand."

He reached into his jacket.

Everyone tensed.

Instead of a weapon...

He removed a business card.

"If Emily changes her mind..."

He held it toward Ryder.

"My family's foundation helps women in difficult situations."

Ryder finally accepted the card.

Not because he trusted him.

Because he wanted to know exactly who he was dealing with.

Richard smiled one last time.

"I truly hope she gets the help she needs."

Then he returned to his SUV.

The moment it disappeared around the corner...

Emily completely collapsed.

She began sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.

Mira cried with her.

Tank looked furious.

"What kind of man scares a kid like that?"

Emily buried her face in her hands.

"You don't understand..."

"Then help us understand."

Several minutes passed before she could finally speak.

"My husband..."

She swallowed painfully.

"Daniel..."

"He wasn't Richard's brother."

The bikers exchanged confused looks.

"What?"

Emily wiped her tears.

"They aren't even related."

Ryder frowned.

"But he just told the whole neighborhood—"

"He lies."

"He always lies."

Tank muttered a curse.

Emily continued.

"Richard owned the construction company where Daniel worked."

"He promised promotions."

"Bonuses."

"A better future."

"So what happened?"

Emily looked toward the road where the SUV had disappeared.

"Daniel discovered something."

"What?"

"He found proof Richard had been stealing millions from elderly homeowners."

Silence.

"He used fake repair contracts."

"Forged signatures."

"Stole people's homes."

Mason's jaw tightened.

"And Daniel reported him?"

Emily nodded.

"He collected every document."

"Every receipt."

"Every recording."

"He was going to the FBI."

Tank whispered softly.

"Oh no..."

Emily closed her eyes.

"The night before his meeting..."

"There was a car accident."

Nobody spoke.

"He died instantly."

Ryder asked quietly,

"And the evidence?"

Emily looked broken.

"It disappeared."

"The police called it an unfortunate accident."

"The insurance company closed the case."

"The newspapers forgot after three days."

"And Richard?"

Emily laughed bitterly.

"He donated two million dollars to the hospital one week later."

The laughter stopped.

"So everyone called him a hero."

Viper finally understood.

"The town worships him."

Emily nodded.

"They think I'm crazy."

"They think grief destroyed my mind."

"They think Richard has been helping us."

"But that's impossible."

Tank frowned.

"If he wanted you gone..."

"Why leave you alive?"

Emily reached inside the worn backpack beside the blanket.

She hesitated.

Then slowly removed an old brown envelope wrapped tightly in plastic.

"I didn't tell anyone..."

Her voice trembled.

"Not even the police."

She carefully opened the envelope.

Inside...

Was a small USB drive.

Ryder's expression changed.

"My husband mailed this to me the morning he died."

"I was too afraid to open it."

"Because if Richard knew..."

She looked at Mira.

"...he would finish what he started."

Ryder took the flash drive carefully.

Written across it in black marker were only six chilling words.

IF I'M DEAD... TRUST NO ONE.

The four bikers stared silently at the tiny piece of plastic.

None of them realized...

May you like

That holding it for even one minute had already placed a price on every one of their heads.
