Chapter 1

Valeria was 32 years old when her entire world was reduced to ashes beneath the blazing sun of Jalisco, Mexico.
Eight months pregnant...
Her swollen belly felt as heavy as stone.
Four small children clung desperately to her skirt.
And she was thrown out of her own home as though her life meant absolutely nothing.
Mateo...
The man she had shared twelve years of sacrifice, hardship, and unwavering loyalty with...
Stood in the doorway looking at her with a coldness that froze her blood.
"This house is in my name."
"So is the land."
"You're useless to me now."
"You're nothing but a burden."
He spat the words at her without the slightest trace of remorse.
The reason for his cruelty stood just behind him.
A 22-year-old woman.
Young.
Beautiful.
Without stretch marks.
Without the exhaustion permanently etched across Valeria's face after years of raising four children while Mateo wasted what little money they had drinking in the village bars.
That same afternoon...
Valeria packed everything her family owned into two worn-out canvas suitcases.
Eleven-year-old Elena understood exactly what was happening.
Her dark eyes carried a painful maturity no child should ever possess.
Nine-year-old Carlos clenched his tiny fists in silence, swallowing his anger.
Seven-year-old Paty cried uncontrollably.
And little Paco, only four years old, looked up innocently and asked,
"When is Daddy coming home for dinner?"
Valeria couldn't answer.
Without a single peso in her pocket...
Without relatives willing to help...
And with a heart shattered into pieces...
She took her children by the hand...
And started walking.
They wandered aimlessly for more than three hours.
The Mexican heat was unbearable.
Dust carried by the wind stuck to their sweaty faces.
The children's feet blistered until they began to bleed.
Inside her womb...
The baby kicked violently.
Her body was warning her...
She was reaching her limit.
Just as her vision blurred and her knees threatened to collapse...
The dirt road opened onto a magnificent pair of wrought-iron gates.
Beyond them stood Hacienda El Milagro.
A sprawling traditional estate surrounded by endless blue agave fields and rolling green pastures.
Near the entrance...
A broad-shouldered man with weathered skin was unloading two massive milk barrels from a pickup truck.
It was Don Alejandro.
Fifty-eight years old.
The most respected ranch owner in the region.
A widower.
A recluse.
A man famous throughout the county for his hard character and unreadable expression.
Barely able to remain standing...
Valeria approached the gate with her children gathered behind her.
Her voice trembled from thirst and humiliation.
"Sir..."
"Could we please have a glass of water..."
"And just a little shade so the children can rest?"
Don Alejandro silently set down his tools.
He walked toward the gate.
His stern eyes slowly examined the exhausted pregnant woman...
Then each of the dirty, exhausted children.
Suddenly...
His expression changed.
His gaze locked onto little Paco.
The four-year-old looked up at the towering rancher.
His eyes were extraordinary.
A deep, almost black shade of brown...
Surrounded by a brilliant emerald-green ring.
Don Alejandro went completely pale.
He staggered backward.
One trembling hand pressed against his chest.
Those eyes...
They were identical.
Exactly the same eyes...
That had marked every generation of his family for more than a century.
Without saying another word...
The old rancher unlocked the heavy iron gates.
He opened them wide.
"Come inside."
Immediately, he ordered his workers to bring fresh water...
Warm milk straight from the dairy...
And sweet bread.
The hungry children devoured every bite.
Meanwhile...
Valeria quietly asked permission to wash her face inside the main house.
She slowly walked through the elegant hallway lined with handcrafted wooden furniture.
As she passed the grand living room...
Something stopped her cold.
Above the enormous stone fireplace...
Illuminated by candlelight...
Hung a large antique photograph inside a polished silver frame.
The air vanished from her lungs.
Her heart slammed violently against her chest.
She grabbed the wall to keep herself from collapsing.
The smiling young man in the photograph...
Was unmistakable.
It was Mateo.
Her husband.
The merciless man who had abandoned her and their children just hours earlier...
Leaving them to die.

No one inside that mansion could possibly imagine...
What was about to happen next.
