🎬 CHAPTER 1: THE DIRT ON THE KEYS

The laughter at L’Étoile wasn't just loud; it was expensive. Clinking crystal glasses, $10,000 bottles of wine, and the soft, elite hum of a grand piano. Standing at the center of it all was Julian Vance—a billionaire real estate mogul whose name dictated the city’s skyline.

To Julian, everything was a transaction. Everything was under control.

Until a piece of artisan bread skittered across the polished marble floor, stopping right at the bare, filth-caked feet of a girl sitting just outside the glass patio.

“Hey… play something for it!” Richard, a drunk investor, bellowed, tossing a second piece. “Or is begging your only talent?”

A wave of cruel chuckles rippled through the high-society crowd. Some looked away, but nobody stopped it. The girl didn’t move. She just stared at the bread.

CRASH.

Julian slammed his glass onto the table. The sharp sound cut through the air like a guillotine.

“That’s enough. Sit down,” Julian commanded. The laughter died instantly. Even the hired pianist stopped playing. Julian stepped forward, his sharp eyes locking onto the girl. There was something irritatingly familiar about the way she held her shoulders. Defiant, even in rags.

“Can you actually play?” Julian asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.

The girl slowly stood up. Her body trembled from the biting night air, but her gaze was steel. “I didn’t forget…” she whispered, locking eyes with him. “…even when I lost everything.”

Whispers broke out as she pushed past the golden stanchions. Her steps were heavy, leaving faint, dusty footprints on the pristine floor. The crowd gasped as her dirty, scarred hands hovered over the spotless white keys of the Steinway.

She pressed one note. Then, a storm broke loose.

It wasn't just music; it was a physical force. The melody poured out—raw, bleeding, and devastatingly beautiful. It was a piece filled with agonizing pain and memory.

Julian’s breath hitched. His chest tightened. No. It can't be.

Slowly, Julian stepped closer, his cold facade cracking. "Wait..." his voice shook, dropping to a whisper. "...you're—"

Without breaking her rhythm, tears cutting tracks through the dirt on her face, she looked up.

“You left us…” she whispered.

Julian froze. He recognized the piece. It was “The Winter Waltz”—a song written by his late wife, a song that had only ever been played inside the private mansion he had abandoned fifteen years ago after a tragic fire.

Julian’s hand shook as he reached out to her. “Aria…?”

But Aria’s eyes went cold. She slammed her hands down onto one final, shattering chord, looked directly into the eyes of the man who had abandoned his family for wealth, and whispered:

“…too late.”
