Chapter 5 - THE ZURICH SHOWDOWNThree weeks later, the clinic in Zurich was a fortress.

Victoria was recovering, her strength slowly returning under the best care money could buy. The triplets were finally living a life of warmth, toys, and peace. They spent their days in the clinic’s private gardens, laughing with an innocence that made Christopher weep every time he watched them from his office window.

He had not yet told them who he was. He was terrified. How could he look into the eyes of the children he had let starve and tell them he was the father they had prayed for?

Evelyn arrived at the clinic under the guise of "reconciliation."

She walked into Victoria’s room, holding a bouquet of lilies. Victoria was sitting up in bed, looking frail but alert.

“You must be Victoria,” Evelyn said, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. “I’m Evelyn. Christopher’s daughter. I thought it was time we met.”

Victoria looked at her, her eyes sharp. “I know who you are.”

“Do you?” Evelyn leaned in, her smile vanishing. “Do you know what happens to women like you who try to play games with the Ashford fortune? You’re a footnote, Victoria. A mistake my father made before he became a real man.”

She reached into her purse, pulling out a legal document.

“This is a waiver,” Evelyn said. “You take ten million dollars, you disappear, and you never come back. If you don't sign it... well, the triplets are quite small, aren't they? It would be a shame if they were lost during a hiking trip.”

Victoria didn't flinch.

“You think you’re so smart, Evelyn,” Victoria said, her voice surprisingly steady. “But you forgot one thing. You’re playing with a man who spent twenty years learning how to be a monster so he could provide for a family he didn't know he had.”

The door to the room opened, and Christopher walked in, followed by two Swiss police officers and a high-ranking federal prosecutor.

Evelyn turned, her face paling. “Dad? What is this?”

Christopher held up his phone. On the screen, a live feed of her conversation was playing, audio and video.

“Everything you just said, Evelyn, is now in the hands of the police,” Christopher said, his voice echoing in the small room. “The bribe, the threat against the children, the conspiracy to commit murder. It’s all there.”

Evelyn stared at him, her eyes wide with shock. “You... you recorded me? I’m your daughter!”

“My daughter is Madison, Olivia, and Charlotte,” Christopher said, walking past her to stand by Victoria’s bed. “You? You’re just a spoiled child who ran out of luck.”
