Chapter 7 - THE CRUMBLING MONOLITHWithin twenty minutes, the lobby downstairs was swarming with reporters, camera crews, and federal investigators.

The stock price of Han Meridian Group, ticker symbol HMG, began to plummet on the New York Stock Exchange like a stone dropped from a skyscraper. Down five percent. Down twelve percent. Down thirty percent. Trading was temporarily halted as automated circuit breakers kicked in to stem the absolute financial hemorrhage.

Up in the boardroom, the silence was suffocating.

Marcus sat slumped in a chair, weeping quietly into his manicured hands, his expensive suit rumpled and ruined. Ethan stood with his hands cuffed behind his back, staring blankly out the floor-to-ceiling glass window at the Manhattan skyline he had tried to steal and instead destroyed.

Victor Han sat back in his massive leather chairman’s chair. He looked ten years older than he had twenty-four hours ago. The broad shoulders seemed to have collapsed inward; the terrifying aura of invincibility was gone, replaced by the frail reality of an old man betrayed by his own blood.

He looked across the table at Daniel.

And beside Daniel stood Lena. Not a maid. Not a punishment. Not a pawn.

"You planned this," Victor whispered, his voice cracked and hollow. "You and her. You engineered the wedding just to get inside the inner circle."

Daniel shook his head slowly. "No, Father. You engineered the wedding. You wanted to humiliate me, so you threw me out into the real world. You gave me a wife who knows what real survival looks like instead of corporate sharks who only know how to feed."

Lena stepped forward, resting her hand lightly on the edge of the table.

"Mr. Han," Lena said quietly. "Cruelty isn't control. It’s just a very expensive way of making people hate you enough to watch you fall."

Victor closed his eyes. He didn't argue. He didn't yell. For the first time in his life, he simply accepted defeat.
