Chapter 8 - THE TRAP CLOSESBefore Elena could squeeze the trigger, a blinding pair of high beams cut through the torrential rain, illuminating the entire pier in a blinding white glare.

Three black SUV’s bearing federal insignia burst through the gates of Pier 4, tires screeching against the wet concrete. Heavy tactical doors flew open, and a dozen armed federal agents spilled out, their assault rifles raised and locked onto Elena.
"Federal Bureau of Investigation! Drop your weapon!" the lead agent roared over the PA system.
Elena didn't drop the gun. Instead, she slowly lowered the barrel, her gaze locking onto Dante one last time over the hood of the lead SUV.
Marco appeared at the top of the gantry stairs, holding a smoking flare in one hand and pointing down at Elena with the other. "It's over, Elena. The entire perimeter is sealed. You have nowhere to run."
"Run?" Elena let out a hollow, haunting laugh that was swallowed by the storm. "I didn't come here to run, Marco. I came here to wake him up."
She raised the revolver not at Dante, not at the agents, but toward the master control panel of the entire shipping grid behind her.

"Elena, don't!" Dante shouted, clutching Leo tighter as he rose to his feet.
With a defiant smirk, she fired three rounds directly into the main electrical housing. Sparks showered the wet concrete in a dazzling, violent display of blue and white fire. The master grid shrieked as every single shipping container on the pier simultaneously unlocked their automated pneumatic latches.
