Chapter 7 - The Trap on the Penthouse RoofThe wind on the roof of the Manhattan skyscraper was fierce, howling through the steel girders and satellite dishes like a banshee. Helicopters hummed in the distance, but overhead, a heavy black chopper hovered silently against the smoggy night sky, dropping a thick nylon rope toward the helipad.

Three more mercenaries scrambled out of the chopper’s bay, tactical boots hitting the concrete with heavy thuds.
They raised their weapons, scanning the dark rooftop.
They didn't see the shadow detach itself from the water tower.
Vincent moved in complete silence, closing the distance between them with terrifying speed. Before the last mercenary could turn around, Vincent’s arm wrapped around his throat in a brutal, crushing chokehold, snapping his neck before the man could draw a single breath.
The other two whirled around, raising their rifles, but Vincent had already used the falling body as a human shield, firing twice from beneath the dead man’s arm.
Both mercenaries went down, clutching their chests.
Vincent stepped over them, walking straight toward the edge of the helipad where the heavy nylon rope still dangled from the hovering chopper fifty feet above.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Vincent grabbed the rope. With superhuman strength born of pure rage and adrenaline, he wrapped his legs around it and began climbing hand over hand straight up into the roaring rotor wash of the aircraft.
Inside the cockpit, the pilot turned around, expecting to see his team returning with a captive.
Instead, he looked into the cold, dead eyes of Vincent Costello staring through the windshield.

The pilot shrieked, slamming the cyclic forward, but it was too late. Vincent smashed the butt of his pistol through the reinforced glass, reached inside, grabbed the pilot by his tactical vest, and hauled him bodily out of the seat onto the freezing roof.
“Take me to Marcus,” Vincent whispered into the screaming wind, pressing the cold barrel of his gun against the pilot’s forehead.
