Chapter 4 - THE CONNECTIONHe pulled the medallion from his neck—the one I had given him—and gripped it so hard his knuckles turned white. "My mother gave me this when they took her. They told me she was gone. I spent twenty years tearing this city down trying to find the men who did it. I thought I was alone."

"You aren't anymore," I said, my voice softening.

"Why?" he asked, searching my face. "Why risk your life for a criminal?"

"Because," I said, remembering my own losses, "sometimes we're just waiting for someone to remind us we’re still human."
