Chapter 3 - The Secret in the SafeTen minutes later, Dr. Calvin Hale was sitting in his luxury sedan parked at the edge of the estate’s private gates, reaching into his pocket to retrieve his favorite brass-embossed fountain pen—only to realize his coat button was missing.

He glanced back up at the imposing dark stone facade of the mansion.
For a fraction of a second, a cold shiver ran down his spine. Then he shook his head, convincing himself it was nothing. The dosage was locked in. The man was completely dependent on him.
Back inside the study, Dominic stood up. The cane he sometimes used for balance was cast aside.
He walked to the hidden wall safe behind the heavy oil painting of his grandfather, dialed the combination with fingers that did not shake, and pulled out a backup chemical analysis kit he had kept hidden since his days in the intelligence bureau.
He walked over to his bathroom, retrieved the amber bottle Dr. Hale had just used, and pulled a clean cotton swab from the jar.
He dipped the swab into the remaining liquid inside the bottle, placed it on the glass slide of the testing kit, and applied the reagent drops.
The clear liquid instantly turned a vibrant, toxic purple.
Tetrodotoxin derivative combined with a localized neuro-paralytic agent.
It wasn't a healing medicine. It was a continuous, daily chemical block designed to paralyzed the auditory nerve endings and induce permanent, medically maintained deafness—administered under the guise of therapy by a man trusted like family.
Dominic looked at the purple chemical reaction on the glass.
Then he looked at the photograph of his brother Ethan on the desk.
Ethan hadn't just been killed in an explosion. The restaurant bombing had been a cover. Someone had wanted Dominic neutralized, deafened, and completely isolated from the world while they dismantled his empire from within.
And Dr. Calvin Hale—backed by someone very close to home—was orchestrating the entire thing.

The silence in the room didn't feel heavy anymore.
It felt like a loaded weapon.
