Chapter 5 - The Sanctuary of ShadowsThe elevator shuddered to a halt in the sub-basement loading dock. The doors slid open to reveal a damp, concrete labyrinth of service tunnels, utility pipes, and parked delivery trucks.

"Vance’s men will have the main exits blocked," Mateo said, checking his phone’s encrypted comms. "Our safehouse on Wabash is compromised. Mercer must have given them our entire rotation schedule."
"Then we don't go to a safehouse," Emma said, standing up and brushing off her ruined dress.
Both men turned to look at her.
"And where do you suggest we go, Miss Hayes?" Damian asked, raising an eyebrow. "My penthouse is currently being watched, and every police cruiser in the loop is likely on Vance’s payroll."
"My apartment," Emma stated firmly.
Mateo laughed out loud. "Your apartment? The one with the floral wallpaper and the old sedan parked outside? Vance knows where you live, lady."
"Vance knows where Ashford and Cole has me registered," Emma corrected, a spark of pure analytical genius lighting up her eyes. "My official residence is my paper trail. But three weeks ago, I caught a discrepancy in the property maintenance ledger for a derelict industrial laundry plant on 4th Street—owned by a dormant shell company that traces directly back to Moretti Holdings."

Damian narrowed his eyes. "The old Ravenswood plant. It was condemned five years ago."
"It's not condemned," Emma replied with a confident smirk. "It has active fiber-optic lines, independent backup generators, and industrial-grade encryption shielding. It’s a ghost node in your own network—and I'll bet my entire retirement fund that Vance doesn't even know it exists."
