Chapter 7 - HANNAH OPENS HER EYESEthan ran.

He reached Hannah's room to find her awake, pale, exhausted, but conscious.
Her eyes opened.
Then she saw him.
Her expression hardened.
“Get out.”
Ethan stopped.
“Hannah—”
“Get away from my daughter.”
Lily ran to her.
“Mommy!”
Hannah held her weakly.
“I thought I lost you.”
“You didn't.”
Hannah looked at Ethan.
“What are you doing here?”
“I know.”
She froze.
“You know?”
“About Lily.”
Hannah's eyes filled with tears.
Ethan whispered:
“She's my daughter.”
Hannah looked away.
“You weren't supposed to know.”
“Why?”
“Because every person who ever knew became a target.”
Ethan sat beside the bed.
“I should have protected you.”
“You should have believed me.”
He lowered his head.
“I know.”
For several seconds, neither spoke.
Then Ethan said:
“I found the evidence.”
Hannah's face changed.
“What evidence?”
“Marcus.”
She went pale.
“You found him?”
“He came to me.”
Hannah's breathing quickened.
“He'll kill Lily.”
“He won't.”
“You don't understand him.”
“I understand him now.”
Hannah stared at him.
“You destroyed my life.”
“I know.”
“You made me lose my career.”
“I know.”
“You let everyone believe I was a thief.”
Ethan's eyes filled.
“I know.”
“You can't fix that.”
“No.”
He looked at her.
“But I can spend the rest of my life trying.”
Hannah didn't answer.
Then the monitor beside her began beeping faster.
Her face suddenly changed.
“Ethan…”
“What?”
“The trust.”
“What about it?”
“My mother gave me one instruction before she died.”
“What?”
Hannah whispered:
“Never let Ethan Parker sign it.”
Ethan froze.
“Why?”
Hannah looked terrified.
“Because the trust isn't worth nine hundred million.”
May you like
She swallowed.
“It's worth four billion.”
