Chapter 9 - THE LAST BETRAYALEmergency lights flickered on.

Marcus stood at the entrance.

He held a gun.

Hannah pulled Lily behind her.

Ethan stepped forward.

“You're my brother.”

Marcus laughed bitterly.

“Half-brother.”

“Why?”

“Because your father chose you.”

Ethan stared.

“You had everything.”

“No.”

Marcus's voice cracked.

“You had his name.”

“I never asked for it.”

“You didn't have to.”

Marcus revealed the final secret.

His mother had been Ethan's father's first love.

When she became pregnant, Ethan's father abandoned her and married Eleanor Parker.

Marcus grew up believing the Parker family had stolen his life.

Then Ethan's father discovered Marcus had been stealing from the company.

He threatened to expose him.

Marcus retaliated.

He manipulated Ethan's mother.

He framed Hannah.

He orchestrated the financial crimes.

And he had caused the accident that nearly killed Hannah.

But Marcus had underestimated one person.

Lily.

A child.

A witness.

A forgotten heir.

Ethan stepped forward.

“You're going to prison.”

Marcus smiled.

“You think I came here without insurance?”

He pressed a button.

Every screen in the vault turned on.

A live feed appeared.

News reporters.

Police.

Government investigators.

Marcus had already leaked selected documents to make Ethan look guilty.

Ethan realized the trap.

Marcus wanted him arrested.

He wanted Lily taken away.

And he wanted control of the trust.

Then Hannah whispered:

“Ethan.”

“What?”

“Look at the screen.”

One of the files was still uploading.

The hidden archive.

Marcus had forgotten one thing.

Hannah had copied everything.

Including his confession.

Ethan smiled.

Marcus saw it.

“What?”

“You lost.”

Police sirens filled the distance.

Marcus turned.

Hannah whispered:

“You should have checked the child's backpack.”

Lily opened it.

Inside was a small recording device.
