CHAPTER 1 – The Boy Nobody Wanted to Notice

The summer fair was packed with laughter, music, and families spending money without thinking twice. Bright lights covered every corner, expensive food filled the air with delicious smells, and children begged their parents for one more ride.

But at the edge of the festival stood a small wooden table that almost nobody noticed.

Behind it was a skinny twelve-year-old boy named Ethan.

He wasn't selling fancy desserts or handmade crafts.

He was selling small paper bags filled with colorful jelly beans.

Every bag had been packed by hand.

Every single candy had been counted carefully.

And every dollar mattered.

Most people walked past without even looking.

Some smiled politely.

Others whispered.

"Poor kid."

"His parents should be working instead of making him do this."

A few teenagers laughed as they passed.

"Nobody buys jelly beans anymore."

Ethan heard every word.

Still, he smiled.

"Fresh candy! Only three dollars a bag!"

Hours passed.

The sun slowly began to set.

Only five bags had sold.

He quietly opened an old notebook and crossed out the number.

Five sold.

One hundred forty-five left.

His shoulders dropped.

If he couldn't sell enough today, he wouldn't have enough money to pay for his mother's medicine.

His mother had been fighting kidney disease for nearly two years.

Every week the bills became larger.

Every week Ethan promised her the same thing.

"Don't worry, Mom."

"I'll figure something out."

She never knew he skipped lunch every day to save money.

She never knew he walked six miles instead of taking the bus.

She never knew he secretly made candy every night after finishing homework.

Because he never wanted her to feel guilty.

Just before sunset...

A black luxury SUV slowly stopped near the fair.

People immediately began staring.

Several security guards stepped out first.

Then an older man wearing a simple navy jacket quietly walked toward the market.

Nobody recognized him.

Except one elderly vendor nearby...

His face suddenly turned pale.

"That's him..."

"The founder of Sterling Foods..."

One of the richest businessmen in America.

Billionaire Richard Sterling.

Yet instead of walking toward the expensive gourmet booths...

Richard stopped directly in front of Ethan's tiny candy stand.

He picked up one paper bag.

Smiled.

Then asked one simple question.

"Did you make these yourself?"

Ethan nodded.

"Yes, sir."

"My mom taught me before she got sick."

Richard looked at the candy for a long moment.

Then he noticed something unusual.

Inside one glass jar...

Mixed among the colorful jelly beans...

Was a tiny silver coin.

Old.

Scratched.

Almost forgotten.

Richard's smile disappeared instantly.

His hands began to shake.

May you like

Because he hadn't seen a coin like that...

For over thirty years.
