CHAPTER 2 – The Coin That Changed Everything
Richard slowly picked up the tiny silver coin.
His fingers trembled.
"Where did you get this?"
Ethan looked confused.
"Oh... that?"
"It always stays in the candy jar."
"My mom says Grandpa carried it every day before he disappeared."
Richard froze.
"What did you just say?"
"My grandfather disappeared before I was born."
"My mom only has one photo of him."
"She says this coin is all that's left."
Richard felt as though the ground had disappeared beneath him.
Thirty-two years earlier...
His younger brother Michael had vanished after leaving home with nothing but a silver lucky coin engraved with a tiny maple leaf.
Police never found him.
The family eventually believed he had died.
Richard himself had spent millions searching.
Nothing.
Not one clue.
Until today.
He looked at Ethan.
"Can I... see your mother's photograph?"
Ethan hesitated before carefully pulling an old picture from his backpack.
The edges were faded.
The colors almost gone.
But Richard recognized the young man immediately.
His brother.

Standing beside a smiling young woman...
Holding a newborn baby.
Richard's eyes filled with tears.
"My God..."
"My brother was alive."

People nearby began gathering after seeing the billionaire crying in front of a candy stand.
Security guards didn't know what had happened.
Neither did reporters who rushed toward the scene.
Richard knelt in front of Ethan.
"You've been selling candy to buy medicine..."
"While your family..."
"...was my family all along."
The next morning every news station carried the unbelievable story.
"Billionaire Finds Lost Family Through Boy Selling Candy at Local Fair."
Millions watched the interview.
Donations poured in.
Hospitals offered treatment.
Scholarships arrived.
But the greatest surprise came a week later.
When lawyers finally opened Michael Sterling's forgotten safety deposit box.
Everyone expected money.
Jewelry.
Documents.
Instead...
They found one sealed envelope addressed to Ethan's mother.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
The final sentence left everyone speechless.
"If my brother Richard ever finds this... tell him I never ran away. Someone made the whole world believe I did."
