Everyone expected the girl to shake her head.

She placed her trembling hand into his.
The theater became so quiet that even breathing sounded loud.

Two...
Three seconds passed.
Then...
Her knees moved.
A gasp swept across the audience.
Slowly, painfully, she pushed herself upward.
She wasn't standing alone.

The boy was offered a scholarship to study medicine.
Years later, he became one of the country's leading pediatric rehabilitation specialists.
People always asked him what inspired his career.
He never mentioned the applause.
He never mentioned the money.
He simply smiled and answered...
"Because one pair of shining ballet shoes taught me that hope can help someone stand... long before their legs ever do."
