Chapter 6 - The Architect of Vengeance“Vance,” Richard gasped, looking up at the speaker in the ceiling. “Where are you? What have you done?!”

“I am currently sitting in my car in your driveway, Richard,” Dr. Vance’s voice came through clearly now, chillingly relaxed. “Watching Thomas’s magnificent live stream. I must compliment you, Thomas—exposing Richard’s financial corruption to half a million viewers provided the perfect prelude to my grand finale.”
Thomas took two steps toward the speaker panel. “Vance, this was not part of the plan. My objective was to ruin him legally and financially. I did not authorize a fatal toxic attack inside this house!”
“You were always too soft, Thomas,” Vance chuckled dryly over the intercom. “Exposing him to the SEC just means he hires ten-thousand-dollar-an-hour lawyers and lives out his retirement under comfortable house arrest in the Hamptons. Men like Richard Caldwell do not suffer unless their lives are systematically erased.”
Maya stepped forward toward the center of the room. “Dr. Vance! Victoria neutralized the wine! She put Atropine in the decanter before Richard could drink it!”
A pause hung over the intercom. Then, a low, terrifying laugh echoed through the room.
“Ah, the brave young server,” Vance said softly. “You have quite the eye for detail, Maya. But you lack medical expertise. Do you really think I would rely on a crude oral poison delivered through a wine glass at a table full of witnesses?”
Victoria froze. Her hands slowly dropped from her cheek. “What... what do you mean?”
“The white tablet Sarah provided to you, Victoria—the one you believed was Atropine—wasn't a neutralizer at all,” Vance revealed, his tone dripping with cruel satisfaction. “It was a catalyst.”
Victoria gasped, staggering backward until her spine hit the back of a dining chair. “No... no! You told me it would bind to the poison and make it harmless!”
“I lied to you, my dear,” Vance sneered. “You were so eager to play the secretive savior—so desperate to hold leverage over your husband’s life—that you swallowed every word I told you. The wine itself contained only an inert chemical base. The true fatal agent was contained inside the tablet you dropped into his glass!”

Maya’s stomach dropped into an abyss. “The red stain...”
“Yes,” Vance confirmed. “When Victoria smashed that glass against the fireplace, she didn't destroy the evidence. She aerosolized it.”
