Chapter 1 - The Rewind That Shattered a Home The blue light of the living room television flickered against Adrian’s face, casting harsh, dancing shadows that mirrored the chaos inside his mind. On the screen, the pixelated truth played out with terrifying clarity:

The audio captured every horrifying detail. The sharp screech of plastic wheels on hardwood, Emma’s terrified shriek, and then Vanessa’s quick, venomous scramble to position herself as the weeping savior the moment Adrian walked through the front door.
The phone slipped from Olivia’s trembling fingers, clattering softly onto the coffee table. But nobody moved to pick it up.
Adrian felt the blood drain completely from his face, leaving his skin cold and clammy. His ears roared with a deafening silence. Less than two minutes ago, that exact screen in his mind had painted Clara as a monster—a careless stepmother who had tried to kill his infant daughter in a fit of bitter resentment. Acting on that blind, primal fury, he had ripped Emma from Clara’s arms, screamed unforgivable accusations into her face, and delivered a brutal, open-handed slap that had knocked Clara to the floor.
He slowly turned his head.
Clara was still standing where she had fallen against the entryway bench, her knees curled up slightly, one hand pressed hard against her burning, crimson cheek. Her eyes weren't angry anymore; they were hollow, stripped of every ounce of love, trust, and warmth she had spent the last five years pouring into this broken family.
"Clara..." Adrian’s voice came out as a broken rasp, a pathetic whisper that died instantly in the heavy air of the room. He took a staggering half-step toward her, his large hands trembling violently at his sides. "Clara, I... I didn't know. The video... I saw..."
Clara didn't flinch. She slowly pushed herself up from the floor, using the edge of the console table for support. When she looked at him, the sheer devastation in her gaze cut deeper than any knife.
"You didn't ask," Clara whispered, her voice dangerously quiet, cutting through the silence like broken glass. "The second she pointed a finger, you chose to believe the worst in me. You didn't give me one second to speak. You just... you hit me."
Across the room, Vanessa’s theatrical sobbing stopped dead. The fake tears dried up instantly, replaced by a mask of frantic, cornered panic. She backed away toward the hallway, her designer handbag clutched to her chest like armor.
"Adrian, wait, let me explain!" Vanessa stammered, her voice pitching into a hysterical shriek. "The video... it’s doctored! That teenager—Olivia—she hates me! She edited those frames together to make me look like the bad guy because she never wanted her father to remarry! You can't trust a jealous kid!"

"Shut your lying mouth, Vanessa," Olivia snapped, stepping in front of her younger sister with eyes blazing like twin fires. Olivia turned her phone screen toward Vanessa, showing the unedited cloud metadata stamp and the raw sensor data. "The file was pulled straight from the smart-home security hub with an unalterable cryptographic hash. There is no edit. You tried to murder a baby, and then you framed an innocent woman to save your own skin."
Adrian’s head snapped toward Vanessa. The grief and shock inside him instantly evaporated, replaced by an incandescent, blind fury that made his vision turn entirely red. He didn't speak. He just started walking toward her.
