Chapter 6 - THE FINAL TWIST

One month later.

The dust had settled over Wall Street. Julian Buchanan’s death had been ruled a consequence of his own corporate crimes, and Franklin had successfully consolidated power over Buchanan Enterprises. The public was captivated by the miraculous return of Elena Buchanan, the billionaire's wife who had survived a plane crash and amnesia to return to her family.

To the world, it was a fairytale ending.

Inside the penthouse, the twins were finally happy, laughing as they played in the living room. Elena sat on the sofa, watching them. She looked flawless in a designer dress, the emerald ring secure on her finger.

Franklin walked in, carrying two glasses of wine. He handed one to her, sitting close. "The security team checked the perimeter. The syndicate hasn't made a move. We’ve locked down every account. You are safe, my love."

Elena smiled, taking a sip of the wine. "Thank you, Franklin. For believing in me. For saving me from that invisible life."

"I would cross the world for you," Franklin said softly, kissing her forehead. "I'm just glad the nightmare is finally over."

"Yes," Elena whispered, her eyes turning cold as she looked out at the glittering Manhattan skyline. "The nightmare is over."

Later that night, when the penthouse was dead silent and Franklin was fast asleep, Elena quietly got out of bed. She slipped into the dark library, locking the heavy mahogany door behind her.

She walked over to the safe hidden behind the portrait of herself. She tapped in a complex code—a code she had never shared with Franklin.

The safe clicked open.

Inside lay a burner phone, a fake passport with a completely different name and face, and a flash drive containing the missing billions from the Buchanan charity fund—the money Julian had supposedly stolen.

Elena picked up the burner phone and dialed a number.

It rang twice before a familiar voice answered. "Is it done?"

It was Maria Morales. Her voice wasn't weak or sick; it was sharp, professional, and commanding.

"Franklin suspects nothing," Elena said into the phone, her voice completely devoid of the warmth she showed her family. "He thinks Julian was the mastermind. He thinks you were captured by the syndicate."

"Excellent," Maria replied. "The extraction team is ready when you are. The billions are securely in the offshore accounts. Julian took the fall beautifully, just as we planned five years ago."

The truth was far more sinister than anyone could have guessed.

Five years ago, Elena hadn't discovered Julian's fraud. She had been the one embezzling the billions. When Julian found out and threatened to expose her, she had faked her own plane crash with the help of Maria Morales—who was actually a high-ranking operative for 'The Architect.'

The amnesia hadn't been an accident or a forced enslavement. It had been a tactical choice. Elena had willingly taken a memory-suppressing drug to live as 'Valerie the cleaner' for five years, completely wiping her own digital and mental footprint so that the FBI and Franklin’s investigators would never find a trace of guilt in her mind if she were ever questioned.

She had programmed herself to 'wake up' only when she interacted with her daughters again—using them as the ultimate emotional trigger to execute the second phase of her plan: returning as the innocent victim, eliminating Julian, and inheriting the entire Buchanan empire alongside her embezzled billions.

Elena looked down at the star-shaped scar on her wrist. It wasn't a mark of injury. It was the logo of the syndicate.

"I'll give it a few more months," Elena whispered into the phone, a cold, ruthless smile spreading across her beautiful face. "Let Franklin build the IPO to its maximum value. When the time is right, he will have a tragic 'accident,' and I will inherit everything."

"And the girls?" Maria asked.

Elena looked toward the door, thinking of Vanessa and Ashley. "They love their mommy. And a mother always stays with her children... until they are no longer useful."

She snapped the burner phone shut, tossed it back into the safe, and locked it.

Walking back into the master bedroom, she slipped into bed beside Franklin. He stirred, instinctively reaching out to pull her close against his chest.

"I love you, Elena," he murmured sleepily.

"I love you too, Franklin," she whispered back into the dark, her eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
