Chapter 6 - THE BROKEN ALLIANCE

VIRAL HOOK: "The mob boss and the street kid had every reason to kill each other. To survive, they had to make a deal with the devil."
"Hart..." Vane whispered, his hand trembling as he held his pistol. "The tactical guys outside... they’re blocking the exits. Doyle brought a whole hit squad. They aren't leaving any survivors."
Julian Hart looked at his ruined, bloody hand. The arrogant mob boss who had entered the arena with a million dollars and absolute control was now reduced to a rat trapped in a cage. He looked over at Leo, who was choking on his own blood ten feet away, and then at Maisie, who was backing away from her father, hugging the writhing, bleeding dog.
Julian’s eyes hardened into ice. He wasn't a good man. He was a murderer, a loan shark, and a tyrant. But he was nobody's puppet.
"Vane," Julian whispered through gritted teeth.
"Yeah, Boss?"
"You still got that flashbang in your vest?"
Vane blinked, surprised. "Yeah, but... Doyle’s holding an acoustic disrupter! If we detonate a flashbang in here, the shockwave will blow our own eardrums out!"
"Not if we hit him before he can tune it," Julian muttered. He crawled on his stomach through the dust, staying low, until he reached Leo’s paralyzed body. Julian grabbed Leo by the back of his collar and dragged him behind the barrier.
Leo coughed, his vision spinning out of control. "M-Mr. Hart... save... save my sister..."
"Shut up, kid," Julian growled, pulling a pocket handkerchief and stuffing it into Leo’s ears. He then tore two pieces of cloth from his custom suit sleeve and jammed them tightly into his own ears. "Your father just ruined a million-dollar custom suit and blew off two of my fingers. Nobody owes anybody money anymore. We're even. Now listen to me very carefully."
Julian pointed to the far corner where the main power circuit box hung on the brick wall.
"Can you crawl over there and pull the main breaker?" Julian asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Leo swallowed hard, wiping blood from his lips. "I... I can try."
"Don't try. Do it," Julian ordered, tossing a heavy steel wrench into Leo’s lap. "When the lights go out, your sister is the only one in this room who won't be blind. She lives in the dark. It’s her domain."
Meanwhile, in the center of the arena, Arthur Doyle took another step toward Maisie.
"Come, Maisie," Arthur commanded, holding out his hand. "Touch the cylinder. Input the resonance code. Let us finish what we started."
"No," Maisie said, her voice shaking, but firm. She held her brass tuning fork tight against her chest. "You aren't my daddy. My daddy used to sing me to sleep. You just make loud noises that hurt people."
Arthur’s face darkened, all warmth evaporating into cold malice. "Then you are useless to me. I will extract the neural data directly from your brain stem in the lab."
He raised his hand, signaling the tactical soldiers behind him to advance and secure her.
CLICK.
High above them, Leo reached the power box and slammed the heavy iron wrench directly into the master breaker.
