Chapter 2 - The Wrath of the Elites

The morning headlines were brutal. “VOSS EMPIRE COLLAPSES? BILLIONAIRE JILTS HEIRESS FOR MAID’S DAUGHTER!” “THE FOUR-BILLION-DOLLAR APOLOGY ALLISTAIR VOSS DEMANDS.”
Inside the private study of the Voss mansion, the air was tense. Elena stood by the window, her hands shaking as she looked at the tablets and newspapers scattered across the mahogany desk.
"Mr. Voss," Elena said, her voice cracking with emotion. "You shouldn't have done that. The stock market is crashing. Voss Industries lost twelve percent of its value overnight. All because of me... because of Lily."
Adrian sat at his desk, casually sipping his black coffee as if the world outside wasn’t burning. "It wasn't because of you, Elena. Celeste showed her true colors. If a woman treats a helpless child like trash, she will treat the world the same way. I won't tie my life or my company to a sociopath."
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors flew open. Alistair Voss stormed in, followed by four high-priced corporate attorneys. The old man’s face was purple with rage.
"You arrogant fool!" Alistair roared, slamming his cane onto Adrian’s desk. "The board of directors is preparing a vote of no confidence against you! The Whitmore Group has pulled all their funding, and they are suing us for breach of contract. You have twenty-four hours to publicly beg Celeste for forgiveness, or I will personally strip you of your title as CEO!"
Adrian didn’t even flinch. He leaned back in his leather chair. "You can’t strip me of my title, Father. I own fifty-one percent of the voting shares. You transferred them to me when Mother died, remember? Because she knew you would eventually try to ruin this family with your greed."
Alistair narrowed his eyes, shifting his gaze to Elena. "Then I will target what you are trying to protect. Elena Cruz, you are fired. And effective immediately, I am filing a formal complaint with Child Protective Services. An unauthorized child residing illegally in a corporate-owned estate? I will ensure your daughter is taken from you by the end of the week."
Elena gasped, dropping to her knees. "Please, Mr. Voss! No! Don't take Lily! I’ll leave the city. I’ll never see Adrian again. Just don't touch my daughter!"
Adrian stood up so fast his chair flipped backward. He stepped between his father and Elena, his eyes burning with a dangerous fury. "Touch a single hair on Lily's head, Father, and I will release the audit reports from 2022. The ones detailing your offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands. You want to play dirty? I will destroy your legacy before the sun sets today."
Alistair raised his cane in a threat, but the sheer malice in Adrian’s eyes forced him to lower it. "You are choosing a servant over your own blood," the old man hissed. "You will regret this, Adrian. Celeste isn't done with you. And neither am I."

When his father left, Adrian knelt beside Elena, gently lifting her off the floor. "I promise you, Elena. Nobody is taking Lily from you. Not my father, and not Celeste."
What Adrian didn’t know was that outside the door, Celeste’s personal investigator was listening to every word, recording the conversation for a much more sinister plot.
