Chapter 11 - THE SHADOW IN THE REINFORCED STEELThe technicians flipped a series of heavy breaker switches. The subterranean bunker roared to life with the deafening hum of high-voltage generators. Blue electricity arcs began dancing along the cables attached to Rick’s cage.

Rick let out a low, agonizing whine that tore through my soul.

"STOP IT!" I screamed, pulling against the wall chains so violently the iron bolts creaked in the masonry. "Take me! Leave him out of this! HE DOESN'T DESERVE THIS!"

"He's a weapon, Leo," Vance said coldly, stepping up to the control panel. "And weapons don't have feelings."

As the voltage spiked, Rick’s eyes—normally a warm, golden brown—suddenly flared with a brilliant, blinding blue LED light. His chest rose, and a mechanical hum overlaid his deep, animal growl.

The electronic restraint around his neck sparked violently.

WARNING: SYSTEM OVERLOAD DETECTED a synthetic voice announced from the mainframe monitors. CERBERUS PROTOCOL ENGAGED. AUTHORIZATION: DR. LEO SR.

"What is that?!" Mark yelled, stepping back in panic. "Shut it down! Shut down the feed!"

"I can't!" a technician screamed over the rising noise. "The canine's neural net is reversing the power flow! It's overloading the facility's power grid!"

Rick didn't bark. He let out a deep, bass-heavy sonic pulse that echoed through the underground chamber! The blast was so intense it shattered every glass monitor in the room. The lights plunged into total darkness, save for the blue glow emanating from Rick’s eyes.

CRACK!

The iron bars of Rick’s cage burst outward under sheer mechanical pressure. Rick landed on the concrete floor on all fours, his movements no longer purely animalistic—they were impossibly fast, precise, and lethal.

Before Vance could pull his weapon, Rick bounded forward like a shadow, taking Vance down by the shoulder and smashing him into the primary generator control board. Sparks exploded across the room as Vance collapsed, unconscious.

"Kill it! Kill that thing!" Mark shrieked, scrambling backward toward the reinforced blast doors.
