CHAPTER 3: The Car Explosion That Was Never Meant to Fail

The shrill sound of Emily's car alarm echoed through the night.
Every guest rushed toward the ballroom windows.
Ryan, still on his knees with handcuffs around his wrists, suddenly stopped begging.
Instead...
He smiled.
It lasted only a second.
But Emily saw it.
That smile wasn't fear.
It was expectation.
"Nobody goes outside!" one federal investigator shouted.
Too late.
A deafening explosion ripped through the parking lot.
The blast shattered the ballroom windows.
Guests screamed as shards of glass rained across the marble floor.
Outside, Emily's luxury sedan was swallowed by flames.
The fire climbed thirty feet into the air.
Everyone stared in horror.
Ryan closed his eyes.
He whispered almost happily,
"It should've been you."
The investigators immediately dragged Ryan to his feet.
"What did you just say?"
Ryan refused to answer.
Emily slowly unfolded the note again.
"Plan B begins."
Her heart pounded.
This had never been about stealing her inheritance.
Someone had planned to kill her.
One investigator hurried back inside carrying a charred metal briefcase recovered several feet from the burning car.
"It's not hers," he said.
Emily frowned.
"I've never seen that."
The case was forced open.
Inside...
There were five passports.
Four different identities.
Stacks of cash.
An unregistered handgun.
And airline tickets for six people leaving the country in less than four hours.
Every ticket had already been paid for.
Every passenger used a fake name.
Except one.
Emily Carter.
Someone intended for the world to believe she had escaped with Ryan.
To erase her.
Not only physically...
But legally.
She would become the villain.
Ryan would disappear.
And forty-eight million dollars would vanish forever.
The lead investigator looked directly at Emily.
"This operation has been planned for months."
Emily whispered,
"So... Ryan wasn't the mastermind."
The investigator didn't answer.
Instead, he slowly turned toward the back of the ballroom.
Someone was missing.
The wedding planner.
She had disappeared during the explosion.
Security searched every hallway.
Every restroom.
Every exit.
Nothing.
She was gone.
Emily's phone vibrated.
Unknown Number.
With trembling hands, she opened the message.
There was only one photo.
A live picture.
Taken less than ten seconds earlier.
It showed Emily standing inside the ballroom...
From somewhere behind her.
At the bottom were six chilling words.
"Turn around before it's too late."
Emily's blood froze.
She slowly turned around.
Standing among the terrified wedding guests...
Wearing a black tuxedo...
Was a man she had watched die...
Five years ago.
Her older brother.
The brother whose funeral she had attended.
The brother whose coffin she had buried with her own hands.
He smiled.
And quietly said,
May you like
"Hello, little sister."
