CHAPTER 2: THE LETTER SAID HIS DAUGHTER WAS IN DANGER… THEN THE BOY POINTED AT THE BLACK SUV

Richard’s hands shook as he read Emma’s letter.
She had not run away because she hated them.
She had run away because someone had been hunting her.
Emma wrote that Noah’s father was not the poor, reckless man Richard had accused her of loving.
He was the son of a powerful family.
And when Emma refused to give up her baby, they destroyed her life.
Evelyn sobbed as Richard reached the final sentence.
“Dad, if a black SUV ever comes near Noah… do not open the door.”
Richard slowly looked toward the window.
Across the street, the SUV’s headlights turned on.
Noah froze.
Then he whispered the words that made Richard’s blood run cold.
“Grandpa…”
“That’s the car Mommy told me to hide from.”
Richard locked the door.
But it was too late.
A tall man in a dark coat stepped out of the SUV, holding another envelope.
He walked to the porch and smiled like he had been waiting for years.
“Mr. Carter,” he said calmly.
“I’m here for the boy.”
Richard stood in front of Noah.
“You’re not taking him.”
The man’s smile widened.
Then he placed the envelope against the window.
Inside was a court document.
And across the top were the words:
FULL CUSTODY TRANSFER APPROVED.
Evelyn nearly collapsed.
But Richard noticed something strange.
The judge’s signature was dated…
Tomorrow.
And that meant one thing.
The document was fake.
Richard looked at Noah, then at the man outside.
For the first time in six years, his fear turned into rage.
“You made one mistake,” Richard said.
“You came to a house owned by a retired federal investigator.”
The man’s smile disappeared.
May you like
Then Richard reached behind the old family photo…
And pulled out a hidden recording device Emma had taped there years ago.
