CHAPTER 2 — The Mafia King Falls in Love... While His Empire Begins to Collapse

Emily woke up surrounded by luxury she had never seen before.
Crystal chandeliers.
Silk curtains.
Private doctors.
Armed guards standing outside every door.
She immediately tried to leave.
A nurse gently stopped her.
"Miss Carter... Mr. DeLuca insisted you remain here until you've recovered."
Emily frowned.
"Who's Mr. DeLuca?"
The nurse froze.
"You... really don't know?"
Meanwhile...
Across the city...
Every mafia family received the same terrifying message.
Only four words.
"Find the traitor. Alive."
Within hours...
Warehouses were burning.
Safe houses were raided.
Corrupt officials disappeared overnight.
Nobody had ever seen Vincent this furious.
Not because someone tried to kill him.
But because they dared to wound...
The woman who saved him.
Emily finally walked downstairs.
The mansion looked more like a royal palace than a home.
At the end of a massive dining hall...
Vincent stood waiting.
He wasn't wearing his usual black suit.
No body armor.
No weapons.
Just a simple white shirt.
For the first time...
He looked almost human.
"I owe you my life."
Emily smiled awkwardly.
"I only did what anyone would've done."
Vincent quietly replied,
"No."
"Nobody ever has."
Days passed.
Emily refused expensive gifts.
Rejected luxury cars.
Ignored designer jewelry.
She even insisted on cooking for herself in the mansion kitchen.
Every servant secretly smiled.
Their terrifying boss...
Was acting like a shy teenager.
He found excuses to see her every morning.
Asked whether she'd eaten.
Sent doctors twice a day.
Canceled mafia meetings just to have dinner with her.
The city's most dangerous criminal...
Had fallen hopelessly in love.
But not everyone was happy.
High above the city...
Vincent's cousin, Marco DeLuca, watched security footage with a cold smile.
"So..."
"The boss survived."
He slowly lit a cigar.
"And he's fallen for a girl."
One advisor whispered,
"Should we eliminate her?"
Marco smiled.
"No."
"She's much more useful alive."
He placed an old photograph on the table.
It showed a little girl standing beside a burning house twenty years earlier.
The little girl...
Was Emily.
Marco whispered,
"She still has no idea who she really is..."
That same night...
Emily couldn't sleep.
She wandered through one forbidden hallway inside the mansion.
A door stood slightly open.
Inside...
She discovered hundreds of old files.
Photographs.
Birth certificates.
Missing children.
Secret police reports.
Then she found one document that made her heart stop.
A photograph of herself.
Age: Five.
Stamped across the page were two terrifying words:
PROJECT PHOENIX
Before she could read further—
A cold voice echoed behind her.
"You were never supposed to see that."
Emily slowly turned around...
And found herself staring directly into the barrel of a silenced pistol.
The man holding it...
May you like
Was Vincent's most trusted bodyguard.
