Chapter 5 - The Hangar Showdown

Headline: The Ultimate Trap At JFK! 100 Armed Men, 1 Million-Dollar Horse, And A Final Choice! The private shipping hangar at JFK Airport was a massive, cavernous space filled with the roaring sound of a jet engine idling on the tarmac outside. A massive Boeing 747 cargo plane sat with its rear loading ramp lowered, ready to transport its illicit cargo across the Atlantic.
Nikolai Voronin, the brutal new prime minister of the Russian Bratva, paced near a row of heavy armored SUVs. He was flanked by at least thirty heavily armed mercenaries.
In the center of the hangar, inside a reinforced steel transport crate, Midnight was throwing himself against the bars. His hooves rang out like thunderous claps against the metal, his black coat covered in a sweat lather.
"Where is Tristan?" Nikolai demanded in a thick Russian accent, checking his gold watch. "He’s late."
Suddenly, the heavy steel rolling doors of the hangar were violently smashed open.
An armored black pickup truck roared into the space, spinning around in a cloud of burning rubber and smoke. The mercenaries immediately raised their weapons, opening a devastating hail of gunfire on the vehicle.
But the truck was completely empty—the gas pedal had been jammed down with a steel rod.
From the dark catwalks high above the hangar ceiling, the real attack began.
Pop. Pop. Pop.
Weston Hargrove’s elite tactical squad opened fire from elevated positions, dropping Nikolai’s men with lethal sniper precision. Panic erupted in the hangar.
Weston dropped down from a heavy cargo chain, landing gracefully on his feet, his dual pistols firing simultaneously as he advanced through the chaos like an unstoppable force of nature. Every shot he took found its mark, his face expressionless, completely cold as winter glass.
From the opposite side of the hangar, Holly emerged from the shadows. She didn't have a gun; she had something far more dangerous. She ran directly toward Midnight’s transport cage.
"Elena!" Nikolai screamed, spotting her through the smoke. He drew a golden revolver and fired two shots in her direction, one bullet grazing her upper arm, tearing through her jacket.
Holly didn't stop. She reached the control panel of the cage and slammed her hand onto the emergency release lever.
The heavy steel door swung open.
"Midnight, K boyu!" Holly roared in Russian—a command that meant To battle.
The massive $1.4 million Friesian stallion charged out of the cage like a literal demon unleashed from hell. Hearing the chaos and her voice, the horse didn't run away. Instead, he charged directly into the line of mercenaries. The horse’s massive weight trampled two hitmen into the concrete floor, his powerful hind legs kicking back and sending another crashing into an equipment rack.
Nikolai panicked, turning his gun toward the horse’s head. "I don't need you alive anymore, you stupid beast!"
"No!" Holly screamed, throwing herself forward.
But before Nikolai could pull the trigger, Weston tackled him to the ground. The two syndicate bosses rolled across the concrete, trading brutal, bone-shattering blows. Nikolai managed to get on top, his hands wrapping around Weston’s throat, his eyes gleaming with a manic, murderous joy.
"Your empire is mine, Hargrove!" Nikolai choked out. "Your city, your family, everything!"
Suddenly, a massive shadow fell over them.
Nikolai looked up, his eyes widening in pure terror.
Midnight was standing over them, rearing up on his hind legs, his massive front hooves suspended in the air right above Nikolai’s chest. Holly stood just behind the horse, her hand raised, holding the beast back by a single, invisible thread of pure authority.
"Move, Weston," Holly whispered, her voice carrying across the entire roaring hangar.
Weston threw his weight sideways, rolling out of the way.
Holly dropped her hand.
Midnight’s hooves came down with devastating, bone-crushing force directly onto Nikolai’s chest, ending the Russian Bratva's reign in New York in a single, brutal second.
The remaining mercenaries dropped their weapons, completely terrified by the sight of the woman who controlled the demon horse.
Weston stood up, panting, bleeding from his lip and forehead. He walked over to Holly, his eyes raking over her injured arm. Without a word, he tore a strip of fabric from his own shirt and wrapped it gently around her wound.
"It’s over," Weston said softly, his dark eyes melting into something warm for the very first time. "The ledger is safe. Your family is avenged."
Holly looked at Midnight, who was gently nudging her shoulder, completely calm now. "No, Weston. It’s not over. Look at the shipping manifest on Nikolai’s desk."
Weston walked over to the metal desk, picking up a blood-splattered clipboard. As his eyes scanned the paperwork, his face went completely pale.

The buyer of the horse wasn't Nikolai. Nikolai was just the delivery boy. The real signature at the bottom of the multi-billion-dollar wire transfer belonged to someone they thought had died six years ago.
Sarah Hargrove. Weston’s late wife.
