PART 2 — THE HOUSE OF LIES BEGINS TO COLLAPSE

The first knock wasn't loud.
It was precise.
Three heavy strikes against the iron front gate echoed through the mansion.
BANG. BANG. BANG.
Everyone froze.
Even the television commentators seemed distant.
Adrián frowned.
"Who the hell comes here at this hour?"
No one answered.
A second later, another knock shook the gate.
This time accompanied by a commanding voice.
"State Police! Open the gate immediately!"
Beatriz laughed nervously.
"There must be some mistake."
Ramiro stood from the couch, irritated.
"Probably another neighbor complaining about noise."
Adrián released Mariana's arm and walked toward the security monitor beside the entrance.
The screen showed something that made his confidence disappear.
Four patrol vehicles.
An ambulance.
Two unmarked black SUVs.
Several uniformed officers.
And standing beside them...
A woman in a navy business suit holding a thick folder.
Natalia Torres.
Mariana recognized her immediately.
She had kept her promise.
Adrián's jaw tightened.
"How does she know where we live?"
Mariana lowered her eyes, hiding the faintest hint of hope.
The siren outside went silent.
Then a loudspeaker crackled.
"Adrián Salazar, open the gate immediately. We have a judicial order and evidence of an ongoing violent assault."
Beatriz's wine glass slipped from her hand.
It shattered across the marble floor.
"What evidence?" she whispered.
Adrián spun toward Mariana.
"What did you do?"
She didn't answer.
He grabbed her shoulders.
"I asked you a question!"
Before he could shake her again, another voice thundered through the loudspeaker.
"Everything happening inside the kitchen is being recorded."
His hands froze.
Recorded?
He looked around the room.
At the ceiling.
The walls.
The smoke detector.
Nothing.
"There are no cameras."
Ramiro hurried into the kitchen.
He searched above the cabinets.
Behind the refrigerator.
Inside the decorative shelves.
"There isn't anything!"
Natalia's calm voice echoed from outside once more.
"We also possess financial records, forged signatures, and evidence of repeated domestic violence."
For the first time in years...
Fear crossed Adrián's face.
Not anger.
Not arrogance.
Fear.
He slowly turned toward Mariana.
"You've been spying on me?"
She looked directly into his eyes.
"No."
"I've been surviving you."
Silence filled the room.
The sentence struck harder than any slap.
Outside, officers began preparing hydraulic equipment for the automatic gate.
Inside, panic spread through the Salazar family.
Ramiro rushed toward Adrián.
"Destroy your computer."
Beatriz grabbed his arm.
"The documents!"
"The office safe!"
"Your father's accounts!"
Adrián sprinted toward his upstairs office.
He ripped open desk drawers.
Pulled hard drives from computers.
Stuffed folders into a black garbage bag.
His hands shook so violently that papers scattered across the floor.
Invoices.
Contracts.
Bank statements.
Fake supplier receipts.
The empire he believed untouchable suddenly looked like a pile of evidence.
Downstairs, Mariana remained standing in the kitchen.
Her burned hand throbbed with unbearable pain.
Yet she smiled for the first time in two years.
Not because she had won.
Because she was no longer alone.
Outside, Natalia checked her watch.
"Thirty seconds."
Officer Lucía Hernández nodded.
"The livestream is still active."
On a tablet inside one of the police vehicles, investigators watched Adrián frantically destroying files.
A digital forensic specialist smiled.
"Too late."
"The cloud copied everything weeks ago."
Lucía looked toward the mansion.
"People like him always think destroying paper destroys the truth."
Natalia closed the folder in her hands.
"The truth left that house before we even arrived."
Inside, Adrián ran back downstairs carrying the garbage bag.
His breathing was uneven.
"We're leaving."
Beatriz stared at him.
"What about her?"
He looked at Mariana as though she were an inconvenience.
"Leave her."
"We'll say she attacked me."
Ramiro immediately agreed.
"She burned herself."
"She has emotional problems."
"We'll make everyone believe she's unstable."
Mariana almost laughed.
Those same lies had worked for years.
Tonight...
They sounded pathetic.
The front gate suddenly shook with a deafening metallic crash.
The hydraulic lock had been breached.
Another crash followed.
Then another.
Adrián's face turned white.
Heavy boots echoed across the driveway.
Closer.
Closer.
Closer.
Officer Lucía Hernández stepped through the front entrance first.
"Police! Nobody move!"
Within seconds, officers spread through the mansion.
Two moved toward Mariana.
Another separated Adrián from her.
One officer escorted Beatriz away from the kitchen.
Ramiro attempted to protest.
"This is private property!"
Lucía calmly replied,
"So is assault."
A paramedic hurried to Mariana.
The moment the towel was removed from her hand, everyone in the room fell silent.
The burn was severe.
Blisters had already burst.
The smell of burned skin still lingered.
The paramedic looked at Lucía.
"This wasn't an accident."
Lucía nodded.
"I know."
She then faced Adrián.
"You are under investigation for domestic violence and related offenses."
Adrián forced a laugh.
"You have no proof."
Natalia slowly stepped inside.
She placed a tablet on the kitchen counter.
Then she pressed play.
The room filled with Adrián's own voice.
"I'm going to teach you never to serve me cheap, overcooked food again."
The video showed every second.
His hand forcing Mariana's onto the scorching griddle.
Her screams.
Beatriz laughing.
Ramiro ignoring everything.
Every excuse they had prepared died in silence.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody could.
Adrián stared at the screen as though looking at a ghost.
He finally understood.
The tiny blue light he never noticed...
Had witnessed everything.
But what he still didn't know...
Was that the assault recorded tonight was only the smallest crime investigators had uncovered.
Hidden inside the encrypted files Mariana had protected for months was a financial secret worth millions—one capable of destroying not only Adrián's company, but several powerful people who had spent years believing they were above the law.
And before sunrise...
May you like
Someone far more dangerous than the police would realize Mariana was still alive.
