Chapter 9 - The Final LedgerHigh above the snow-covered peaks of the Swiss Alps, a sudden roar tore through the quiet night sky—not the sound of a private jet, but the thunderous, unmistakable whine of military-grade twin-turboprop engines.

Two black unmarked utility aircraft dropped out of the heavy cloud cover, their navigation lights dark, descending with terrifying speed directly toward the private airstrip.

Arthur’s head whipped upward, the color draining entirely from his face. "What the hell is that?"

"Interpol’s elite cross-border tactical intervention unit," I replied, stepping closer as the first aircraft touched down with a cloud of spinning rubber smoke, kicking up a blizzard of fine white snow across the tarmac. "Coordinated through a special red notice signed by three European interior ministers twenty minutes ago based on the financial terrorism files Maya decrypted."

The side door of the military transport slid open before the wheels had even finished rolling, and a dozen heavily armed tactical officers poured out onto the ice, their weapons raised, moving with military precision to encircle the entire hangar.

"Drop your weapons!" the lead tactical commander roared in German and English, his laser sights instantly painting a dozen red dots across Arthur Vance’s chest and his security detail.

Arthur’s guards looked at each other, weighed the odds against a dozen elite operatives with superior firepower, and slowly raised their empty hands, dropping their pistols onto the frozen concrete.

Arthur stood frozen, his cigar falling from his fingers and hissing softly into the snow. The untouchable ghost of the corporate underworld looked older now—diminished, frail, and entirely mortal.

I walked right up to him, pulling the silver steel handcuffs from my belt.

"You thought you could bury the family, Arthur," I whispered, snapping the first cuff around his wrist with a sharp, metallic click. "You thought we were just quiet people who wouldn't make a scene."

He glared at me, his eyes burning with impotent rage. "You’ll never make it out of Switzerland alive, Lena. The people backing me—they reach higher than any badge you'll ever hold."

May you like

"Let them try," I said, shoving his second wrist into place and locking the cuffs tight. "My sister’s baby never got to take a single breath. Every single person who helped suffocate her is going to spend the rest of their lives wishing they had never learned our family's name."

As the tactical team forced Arthur Vance into the back of the transport vehicle, I turned my face toward the cold, star-lit sky, watching the mountain wind sweep across the snow.
