CHAPTER 2 — THE SECRET HIS FATHER WOULD KILL TO HIDE

That night...

Police cars lined the street.

Not because of Ethan.

Because someone anonymously sent every file from the flash drive to the authorities.

Detectives entered the father's home with a search warrant.

Everyone expected financial fraud.

They found something much worse.

Hidden inside a locked basement office was an old fireproof safe.

Inside were hundreds of unopened letters.

Every single one...

Addressed to Ethan.

From his mother.

Birthday cards.

Christmas gifts.

Handwritten notes saying:

"I'm still fighting for you."

"One day you'll know the truth."

"I never stopped loving you."

Ethan collapsed to his knees.

For years...

He believed she had forgotten him.

His father had stolen every memory she tried to send.

Then one detective found another envelope.

It wasn't from Ethan's mother.

It was from a private DNA laboratory.

The detective quietly opened it.

His expression froze.

He looked directly at the father.

Then at Ethan.

"Sir..."

"You need to explain this."

The father tried to grab the document.

Too late.

The detective read the final sentence aloud.

"Probability of paternity: 0.00%."

The street fell completely silent.

The man who had controlled Ethan's life...

Wasn't his biological father.

Everyone looked at Ethan.

Then at the woman standing quietly at the end of the street.

She had tears streaming down her face.

No one recognized her.

Except Ethan.

She slowly held up the other half of the childhood photo he had carried for years.

"I promised I'd come back for you..."

"And this time..."

"No one can stop me."

But before Ethan could reach her...

A black SUV sped around the corner.

The driver wasn't trying to brake.

May you like

He was aiming straight at her.

To be continued...
