CHAPTER 4: THE WOMAN WHO STOLE AN ENTIRE LIFE

The ballroom fell silent.

Every guest stared at the wedding certificate in the impostor's hand.

Claire grabbed it with trembling fingers.

Her signature...

It was perfect.

Ethan's signature...

Perfect too.

Even the official government seal was authentic.

Impossible.

"I never signed this," Claire whispered.

The impostor smiled.

"You did."

Claire shook her head violently.

"No... I would remember."

The real Ethan, still pinned to the floor by security guards, struggled to speak.

"They drugged you..."

Everyone turned toward him.

"It happened the night of your bachelorette party."

Claire's memories flashed before her.

A headache.

A missing twelve hours she could never explain.

Friends telling her she had simply drunk too much champagne.

But she had barely touched a glass.

Suddenly...

She remembered waking up in a luxury hotel room with bruises on her wrist.

Ethan had told her she sleepwalked.

She believed him.

Now everything made sense.

The bruises.

The memory loss.

The strange legal documents that had mysteriously appeared over the past month.

Someone hadn't just kidnapped her fiancé.

They had carefully rewritten every detail of her life.

Then every television screen changed again.

A woman's face appeared.

Elegant.

Cold.

Dressed entirely in black.

She smiled as if she had already won.

"My name is Victoria Ashcroft."

"Most of you don't know me."

"But every company Ethan owns..."

"Every bank account."

"Every investment."

"And now..."

She looked directly into the camera.

"...every dollar belonging to Claire."

"Belongs to me."

The guests gasped.

Claire felt her chest tighten.

Victoria continued calmly.

"You think this was about love?"

"No."

"It was about inheritance."

She snapped her fingers.

Lawyers entered the ballroom carrying thick folders.

One by one, they handed documents to reporters waiting outside.

Within seconds, news alerts exploded across every phone.

BREAKING NEWS: Billionaire Couple Accused of Massive Financial Fraud.

Claire stared at the headlines.

Her face.

Her name.

Her company.

Everything had been turned against her.

Before she could speak, police officers stormed into the ballroom.

"Claire Bennett," the lead detective announced.

"You are under arrest for conspiracy, fraud, and attempted murder."

"What?" Claire cried.

"You've made a mistake!"

The detective didn't answer.

He simply held up surveillance footage.

It showed Claire standing beside a black van...

The same van used to kidnap Ethan.

Her face was unmistakable.

But Claire had never seen that van before in her life.

Someone had fabricated evidence so perfect that even she began doubting her own memories.

As officers reached for the handcuffs...

The real Ethan shouted with everything he had left.

"Claire!"

"They're using Project Mirror!"

The detective's face changed instantly.

Fear.

Real fear.

Before anyone could ask what Project Mirror was...

Every light in the ballroom exploded.

Darkness swallowed the room.

Three gunshots echoed through the silence.

When the emergency lights finally flickered on...

The impostor...

Victoria Ashcroft...

And the real Ethan...

Had all vanished.

Only one thing remained in the center of the dance floor.

Claire's engagement ring.

May you like

Covered in fresh blood.
