CHAPTER 3 — "THE FATHER WHO NEVER DIED"

Deep beneath an abandoned hospital on the edge of the city...

A hidden steel door slowly opened.

Inside...

Computers hummed quietly.

Medical equipment lined the walls.

Dozens of monitors glowed in the darkness.

Standing in the center of the room...

A man slowly turned around.

Older.

Thinner.

A scar crossed one side of his face.

But Ethan recognized him instantly.

His knees nearly gave way.

"...Daniel."

The man smiled.

"Took you long enough."

Lily ran into his arms.

"Daddy."

Ethan couldn't speak.

"You..."

"...you're alive."

Daniel nodded.

"I had to disappear."

"They stole our research."

"They wanted to sell it."

"They tried to kill both of us."

He looked directly into Ethan's eyes.

"The accident wasn't an accident."

"You weren't paralyzed by chance."

"They damaged your spine because they couldn't steal what was inside your mind."

Ethan felt every memory crashing back.

Victoria.

The missing research.

The fake investigation.

The unanswered questions.

Daniel handed him a flash drive.

"Everything is here."

"Names."

"Payments."

"Every politician."

"Every billionaire."

"Every doctor involved."

Ethan stared at the tiny device.

"This could destroy them."

Daniel smiled sadly.

"It already has."

At that exact moment...

Police sirens echoed outside.

Helicopters circled overhead.

News alerts exploded across every phone in the city.

Victoria was led away in handcuffs during a live broadcast.

She never looked up.

Weeks later...

Ethan opened the world's largest free spinal rehabilitation center.

Not for the wealthy.

Not for celebrities.

For children.

For veterans.

For anyone who had been told there was no hope.

At the entrance stood a bronze plaque.

It carried only one sentence.

"Miracles don't begin with medicine. They begin when someone refuses to stop believing."

And every morning...

A little girl named Lily greeted each new patient with the same gentle smile.

"Ready?"

"Count with me..."

"One..."
