Chapter 8 - The Final ReckoningThrough the thick cloud of white smoke, a team of fully armored tactical officers poured into the room, laser sights cutting through the haze.

"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS! ON THE GROUND NOW!"
Marcus's guards had no time to react. Within three seconds, all four mercenaries were slammed to the floor, disarmed, and cuffed in heavy zip-ties.
Marcus Vance was forced down onto his knees right beside his nephew, his expensive suit ruined, his hands yanked behind his back.
Standing at the front of the tactical entry team was a tall woman in a black tactical vest, removing her helmet to reveal a sharp, familiar face.
It was Maya.
"Target secured," Maya said into her comms unit, before looking over at me with a smirk. "Nice work locking them in the box, partner. Saved us from chasing them through the stairwells."
Arthur Sterling sat in his chair, breathless, staring in absolute awe at the scene unfolding before him. "Elena... who are you really?"
"I'm just a daughter who kept her promise to her father," I said softly, stepping over the debris and standing directly above Marcus and Gregory Vance.
Marcus glared up at me, his face twisted in venomous hatred. "You think you've won, Elena?! My legal team will have me out on bail by midnight! You can't hold me!"
"Oh, you won't be getting bail, Marcus," Maya chimed in, tossing a thick stack of federal arrest warrants onto the table. "Treason, international weapons financing, and capital murder don't come with bail options."
I knelt down in front of Gregory, who was sobbing uncontrollably, his hands shaking in his cuffs.
"What... what is going to happen to me?" Gregory whimpered, looking up at me with pleading eyes. "Elena, please... I'm your husband! I was forced into this by my uncle! You know I loved you!"
I reached out, gently patting his cheek—the exact same cheek he had raised his hand to strike less than twenty-four hours ago.
"You wanted to discipline a difficult wife, Gregory," I whispered coldly into his ear so only he could hear. "You wanted to teach me my place."
I stood up, pulling a signed set of annulment papers from my jacket pocket and dropping them onto his lap.
"My place is at the top of the empire your uncle stole from my family," I said, my voice echoing across the silent room. "And your place... is in a federal cell for the rest of your life."
As the tactical team dragged Marcus and Gregory out of the boardroom in chains, the heavy shutters lifted, letting the blinding morning sunlight flood back into the room.
I walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass window, looking out over the roaring city below. The rain had stopped. The sky was clear.
My phone buzzed one final time. It was an automated bank notification:
“Transfer Complete: $120,000,000.00 routed to Vance Estate Recovery Fund.”

I took a deep breath, adjusted my jacket, and turned back to face the board of directors.
"Now then, gentlemen," I smiled softly. "Let's get back to business."
