CHAPTER 2 — THE WOMAN WHO RETURNED FROM THE DEAD

The Truth Begins

Police records declared Emily Carter dead.

Dental records confirmed it.

The coroner signed the certificate.

A funeral had been held.

Hundreds attended.

Daniel visited her grave every Sunday.

So how could she possibly be alive?

That evening Lily led Daniel to a quiet lakeside cabin outside the city.

The tiny wooden home looked untouched by time.

Flower pots filled the porch.

Wind chimes sang softly.

Daniel's hands shook before knocking.

The door slowly opened.

Time stopped.

Emily stood there.

Alive.

Real.

Tears instantly filled both of their eyes.

Neither spoke.

Neither moved.

Seven years of grief stood between them.

Daniel reached forward with trembling fingers.

"You..."

His voice collapsed.

"I buried you."

Emily closed her eyes.

"I know."

The silence became unbearable.

Then Lily quietly slipped inside, giving them space.

Daniel stared.

"I watched them lower your coffin."

Emily looked toward the lake.

"There was never a body."

Daniel's mind refused to understand.

"What are you talking about?"

Emily finally told the truth.

Seven years earlier, while hiking in the mountains, she had accidentally witnessed a powerful criminal organization exchanging encrypted military technology.

They caught her.

Instead of killing her, they kidnapped her.

A government intelligence task force secretly intervened.

To protect everyone she loved...

they staged her death.

Only three officials knew she survived.

If Daniel had known the truth, the criminals would have hunted him too.

Emily had begged to contact him.

She wasn't allowed.

Years passed.

The investigation grew larger.

The criminal network spread internationally.

Every message she tried to send was intercepted.

Then everything changed.

Two years after disappearing...

Emily discovered she was pregnant.

Daniel stared in disbelief.

"Lily..."

Emily nodded.

"Our daughter."

Daniel collapsed into a chair.

Seven birthdays.

Seven Christmases.

Seven years.

Gone forever.

Emily knelt before him.

"I missed every heartbeat with you too."

"I never stopped loving you."

Daniel's tears finally broke free.

He wrapped his arms around both Emily and Lily.

For one beautiful moment...

the broken family became whole again.

But outside...

someone watched from the darkness.

A camera lens quietly focused on the cabin.

Inside a black SUV...

a scarred man lowered his binoculars.

"So..."

he smiled coldly.

"The ghost finally found her husband."

He picked up his phone.

May you like

"Bring everyone."

"No witnesses this time."
